Rangers have been rumoured to be in on Eichel for a while, but I could see Detroit as a dark horse. They have the prospects and picks and about $49 million in cap space next year.

The Ducks apparently have just as much interest as NYR, but less clear if they have what Buffalo would want. But they will be all in on him this offseason probably.

As far as NYR, I don't think they would or should have to give much more than Lafreniere or a similar value package. The upside plus the cap benefits to having a young guy like him...not a center but an impact player nonetheless.

i dont see Buffalo doing it for only Lafreniere...as you said C vs Wing and on top of that Eichel is established and objectively looking Lafreniere struggle in his first season if you look at it as a whole. Only way i can see one on one is if Eichel forces a hand and wont report and stuff....otherwise if its a hockey trade i think Lafreniere + Lundkvist or Kakko + Lundkvist + 1st would be more realistic imo. maybe Gregoriev instead of the first.

    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 1h

Jack Eichel says the herniated disk in his neck may still require surgery. He's been learning as much as he can about the injury.
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 58m

Jack Eichel says there has been a disconnect between him and the Sabres regarding his injury. He said he'd be lying if he said things went smoothly.

He says his main goal is to be ready to play next season ... WHEREVER THAT MAY BE.
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 49m

My immediate thought: If you're looking to buy a Sabres jersey, give a second thought to buying a Jack Eichel or Sam Reinhart sweater.
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 35m

Jack Eichel: "I have a lot of thinking to do in this offseason. I think that there's a lot that I have to consider. But for now, obviously, I'm here."
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 32m

Jack Eichel essentially says the Sabres wouldn't let him have surgery on his herniated disk in his neck.

    His body, his choice?

"It doesn't work like that. I wish. ... I'm under contract with this team and they definitely hold a lot of cards on what I can and can't do."
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 29m

Jack Eichel on him and the Sabres: "I've got to do what's best for me and they've got to do what's best for them. ... There's a lot to process. ... I'm sure these conversations will be had and things will go from there."
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 8m

Important to note: There is a grievance process for injuries outlined in the CBA

The team doctor can have an opinion. The player can get a second opinion. If the sides don't agree, they can go to an arbitrator.

No comments (yet) on whether Jack Eichel's camp initiated grievance
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 5m

"If the Club Physician and the Player's Physician cannot agree on whether the Player is disabled and unable to perform his duties as a hockey Player ... they shall confer and agree on an independent physician to examine the Player. ...
    John Vogl @BuffaloVogl 4m

"The independent physician's determination as to whether the Player is disabled and unable to perform his duties as a hockey Player shall be conclusive, final and binding upon the Club and the Player."

Again, not yet clear if the Sabres and Eichel went through this process.
Jesus Christ Buffalo is a disaster lol. Eichel gone for sure.

After reading everything Eichel said today, I'll be more surprised if he plays another game for Buffalo than I would be by him retiring.

Montreal really needs to be making a push for Eichel. Buffalo has a ton of cap space next season ($31 million, but $41 million if Eichel is gone). I'd easily give Caufield or Suzuki, Anderson, Drouin, a first or whatever else Buffalo would want.

Columbus needs a 1C desperately, I wonder if Jarmo makes a play for him. Sign Laine to his qualifying $7.5M 1 year deal, put as much of that as you can into a signing bonus and trade him (plus one of Korpi/Elvis, on top of even more) for Eichel after the bonus is payed. Eichel's salary is $10M with no bonuses so at least next season the Pegulas save some cash, and they won't have to overpay to convince a real goalie to come to Buffalo as well...

its Buffalo so who knows but why would anybody want to do anything with Drouin? i think to get buffalo interested they may need to ship both Caufiled and Suzuki + first.

Both, right now Laf & Kakko & Kravstrov are speculative to become point per game players right now. vs. Eichel who can be a game changer.

Kakko, Strome, Lundqvist, 2 - 1sts. maybe more.
These deals rarely go well for the team selling.

Add in that it's probably more likely than not that Ristolainen will also be traded and buffalo is right back at square one of full rebuild.
game changer on re-signing Reinhart if they enter a rebuild.

Just in time to enter the Wright & then Bedard/Mishkov sweepstakes
