You know... the Eichel thing wouldn't be crazy.
I could totally see something involving Panarin and Eichel.

More curious than anything is to see how this might impact TonyD.

Can you ever remember a team firing it's GM and President for lack of production before the coach? Man, I can't. That's why I think that whole performance reason is BS.

Maybe the president & GM wouldn't fire the coach...
So the GM got canned for not doing what the owners wanted...
Oh wait... that was a different time & place...

Me personally, no of course not. I don't think any of it makes sense. Just if we're choosing to say it's false we're going against the grain of like 8 very prominent and respected reporters now, so then we need to question why Dolan would prefer to say it's performance reasons rather than the Wilson thing, and I personally can't think of a reason anyone would think that would be accepted better or give better PR.

I feel like this could get lost in here and will derail this thread, so I've started a new baseless speculation thread for fun.

The timing reeks. It’s that DoPS thing, or else they’re completely out of touch with fans, social media, and their own players. There really isn’t much that would make me not a hockey fan so thank God I’m not a Ranger fan, or I might just go that way.

in my view this does not change anything for Tony D. His teammates dont want him there i dont think..and other GMs dont want him either or he would have been traded already.

For sure, the rangers didn’t have that bad of a season plus they are still a young team about to get younger. Friedge and dreger are just cowards just as the 2 that were fired for not standing behind the team and their statement. Saying it’s performance based is such an easy way out.

How many teams go from picking first overall to the playoffs?
This is Wilson related in some way. Has to be.

i agree on the wilson front but they were not exactly bottom feeder. They lost a play in tournament to the playoffs and got lucky in lottery with really bad odds.

very true strange seasons, but I guess my point was the rebuild was going pretty good seems a bit premature to dump management.

i agree...as i mentioned above, to me biggest indicator was timing. If it was truly based on performance it would not happen day after that letter came out....

    What. The. ****.

Ok, so now that I've had a few minutes to process and get over the initial shock here goes...

This is performance-related. Dolan could have been talked off the ledge for a non-playoff season but getting completely owned by the Islanders this past week put his finger on the trigger. Hearing scuttlebut from guys like Messier about the team being too soft and the Wilson incident made him start to pull. JD and GMJG not being on the same page with "The Statement" and Drury being such a highly regarded exec who was taking over the reins sooner or later made this happen now.

If Drury becomes GM (unclear if he has an interim label at the moment) I think the team will be fine - He's good and he's been all over this rebuild. It's more or less a formality. The issue is Team President. Sather had Dolan's ear and kept him out of hockey. Word is JD did not have the same relationship, hence the dismissal. The incoming president has to decide whether or not he keeps Drury (insanity to let him go, in my opinion) and manage Dolan better to keep his focus on the MSG hardwood and not its ice.

Edit: Apparently Drury confirmed as President and GM. Last point stands - control Dolan or the rebuild goes to waste.
