I’m told the firing of Gorton and Davidson by NYR is coincidental and not related to the statement issued yesterday related to Tom Wilson. Another source says ownership felt the Rangers underachieved this season.

I'm skeptic if only because no one should be judged on performance with this crazy year, especially in that gauntlet of a division.

I obviously agree, just based on their division they shouldn't have been expected to make the playoffs and by any metric Gorton has overperformed in his role. Firing a team president 2 years into his tenure for "performance" reasons is even more insane, considering year to year performance (in the short term) is not even the focus of a team president. So approaching that reporting with skepticism is reasonable, and I don't really like Dreger or think he's very good, but you do have to ask yourself why two of the most prominent and respected voices in hockey would report something like that so quickly after the fact unless they were highly confident in that information.

not only that, you would think that if it was really performance issue then it would be done later so it does not look like it had anything to do with what happened last night. Im guessing there was a pissing match between the two and the owner and this happened. Those two were backing NHL so it didnt look bad on them and owner had different ideas.

I've now seen 4 more reporters say this is mostly performance related with little to do of the Wilson incident and fallout. Again, maybe it's false reporting, maybe the same people are telling all the reporters the same lie.
