Default The Guy I Am Playing in the Finals Died

    Hey everyone,

The guy I am currently playing in the finals has passed away.
What would you all do in this situation?

I messaged the league manager and said to split it but my brother and girlfriend said that I should give all the money to the family.

The regular season has already been paid out so I'm not sure if money can be given back and the league cancelled.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Holy shit. What a terrible situation. I think it would be a kind gesture to give the money to the family. Fantasy hockey and further chances at prize money will continue on, his family has lost someone forever.

Big gesture for a small amount of money. I think that's an awesome idea.

Wow. I hope they understand that the fantasy hockey “family” cares.

Wow, that's horrible to hear. Maybe send the Finals money his way, along with a nice message about how great it was to get to know him? Something to make the family smile and know he was appreciated.

Wow, brutal situation. I'd probably bench my team for the remainder of the matchup to give them the honorary win (assuming that would give them the win, that is). That's easy for me to say because I play in leagues with modest buy-ins. If it was a high buy-in league with life-changing money or if I was really in a bad situation financially, I might see it differently.

    Well... pause... and think.
This is a heavy matter- when somebody dies.
The family... they may not want to hear anything about fantasy hockey.
For all you/we know... maybe fantasy hockey consumed this guy and he put more effort into it than towards his family.
Maybe it brought him great joy... and having this "championship" may bring some sunshine into the light of his family.
    You... we... don't know.

I'd ask the commissioner for their advice.
As much as it seems like giving him the championship and the money (depends on amount) seems like the right thing to do...
    What would HE have wanted?

I think any real fantasy GM knows that a fair battle is the most important thing.

Personally - I'd say ride out the championship with the commissioner updating the GM's roster with best players.
You guys can determine what to do with the proceeds/money/"title" of champion... after it is over.

In most leagues, the commissioner knows all the GMs the best of anybody.
So I'd default to what the commissioner thinks is best.

(For clarity... simply tanking your team and donating the proceeds and the "championship" may not necessarily be what this guy, if he was alive, or his family wants or needs at this point. Fantasy hockey might be better left out of this family's future world...)

i was on this same path, fantasy Hockey will be the LAST thing they might want to hear about. i mean if it was a significant amount, maybe after a period of time, do you present this to them, but certainly not right away. if it was less than $1000, id say just take teh win graciously and move forward. cold hearted?...maybe, but i wouldn't want to disrupt the family with something as irrelevant as Fanatsy Hockey at this time.
