    Default Carter Hart

Wondering where people put his value next year as a keeper. It's points league and I would mainly be looking for points & saves with low goals allowed and the least losses possible. We loses points for GA and L...

In Yahoo! I can add directly to my IR right now so debating grabbing him as a cheap keeper for next year, but only worth it if he can perform as a tier 2 goalie next season.

    Thoughts?
    Limited Keeper - Keep 5
Auction draft with a budget of $600. Whatever is left becomes your acquisition budget for the season. At the end of the season 50% of your budget is carried over to the next year.
Keeper players are taxed +$10 for forwards with over 75 pts. +$5 for forwards under 74pts. +$0 for forwards under 50pts.
    D = +$10 for 65pts +$5 for under 64pts +$0 under 40
    G = +$10 for 32W +$5 for under 31W & +$0 under 15W

    (G) (A) 25, (+/-) 5, (PIM) 3, (PPG) 7.5, (PPA) 5, (SHG) 10, (SHA) 7.5
    (SOG) 1 (W) 50, (L) -20, (GA) -5, (SV) 2, (SHO) 50

he is going to be better than he was this year...cant get much worst anyhow. But as long as he stays in Philly i would not expect Vezna type goalie....middle of the pack at best

As a keeper type goalie, he's still a borderline top 10 goalie but closer to 10 than five if that makes sense. He's still only 22 years of age and will have lots of time to grow.

It's hard to see Hart being anywhere close to top 10 in Philly over the next few years.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

As I said, he's 22 years old. Most goalies dont even start to hit prime years until 26-28 years of age. Even if he's a top 15 goalie prior to that age, he's worth it.

Anyone remember the progression of Connor Hellebuyck?

His 21 yr old season he was good.
His 22 yr old season he was brutal
His 23 yr old season he was great
His 24 yr old season he fell off again.

yeah but he didnt play in philly

he also never had less than 2.9 GAA and 907 sv%

Hart is at 3.67 and 877 this year...not sure you can even compare the two...

as i said before, he is better than what he has shown so far but i dont see him consistent top 10 guy as long as he stays in Philly.

The whole "Philly" argument is crap.
Hart is a very good goalie, and young goalies have had off-seasons - such as Helle & Price.
But I do think the combination of the COVID-year, the pending contract RFA summer, new coach, new GM, loss of a solid D (Niskanen), and tough opponents (the East) really hurt him.
Specifically, Philly went on an enormous slide around when Couturier went down and Hart just went to shit from there.

There's some good articles out there where one goalie guru/coach has noticed the things Hart has been doing wrong.
Philly DOES need better D. And Nolan Patrick hasn't been working out as a two-way center (been switched to wing a bit).
Myers-Sanheim has not worked out well... and Gustafsson and Ghost are still awful.
Gustaf is super duper awful defensively.
    Ghost has actually improved.

Philly has Zamula and Cam York coming.
While York is a bit offensive, controlling possession is still minimizing opportunities the other way.

The East would've been impossible for PHI to get out of this year anyways.
And the terrible year might help the contract number they can put on Hart, something bridge/short-term likely.

    I think he'll be fine.
    I, personally, think it's a blip.
As part of one season... it's all together.
You know he hates this year, hates his stats, feels hopeless to correct anything.

PHI might need a new GM, a new coach, and definitely needs fresh guys on D (out with Gustafsson, Ghost, Braun, Hagg, IMO... keep the 3 - ditch the rest somehow).

If Hart can feel like expectations are lower...
    And that things are different...
    I think he will "re-set"...
There's certainly NOTHING in his stats trend that suggests he is this terrible a goalie.

Philly had great young D coming for about 20 years now..non of them work out other than maybe Provorov...and even he has been underwhelming...i have no idea what it is, you can say Philly thing is crap, thats fine we all have our opinions. But fact is that you could not trust any Gs in Philly uniform since Hextal and so far nothing has changed...if things change i eat my crap but so far i dont know what facts you can point to to say that Hart will be great in Philly. Everything i see says opposite.

I don't think he's the transendant goalie that some people thought, but he still going to be pretty decent

The problem with arguing that Hart had an off year and comparing it to other current top goalies is that his off year is not just off but downright horrendous. I can't think of a single top goalie who had Hart's stats this year. .877 SV% in 27 games played. And his best year isn't even that impressive with .917 SV%. Yes, he is young and can improve but we have insufficient data to conclude that he will be a top goalie in the NHL.

For those who subscribe - superb info on Hart and his game...

    The TLDR sum up...

Considering all the evidence, including evaluating his toolkit for many years, and his performance this season and in prior seasons, I think a realistic long-term projection for the 22-year-old is a true NHL starting goaltender, a top-30 goalie in the league (if not better), but likely not a true star/upper echelon NHL goalie.
