Default Keep 4. Who to keep

Deciding between Marner, Aho, Sid, Vasilevsky, Shesterkin.
Stats are G,A, Pt, +\-, Pims, hits, ppp, shp, GWG
    Wins, gaa, saves, save%, Shutouts.
I was leaning keeping 2 goalies as both are looking elite.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    That's a tough one.

I lean towards Marner, Aho, vasilevskiy, and sherterkin.

Reason for not keeping Sid. He ain't sid the kid anymore.

How many teams in this league and how many players do you carry per position?

36% of your cats are decided by 2 to 4 goalies is my guess. And they are full starters, not platoon guys like varlamov/sorokin or fleury/lehner.

You hold those guys like gold.

Positions are 2C, 2LW, 2RW, winger, forward, utility and 4 D. And 2 goalie slots to start

I thought about trying to package Sid and Shesterkin. But I feel like Shesterkin is trending to be an elite goalie

Do you have no bench? So can't carry a third goalie?

Oh sorry. 4 bench slots also for whatever positions you want.

I am usually comfortable sticking with one elite goalie and running a couple others in the other slots. However, I feel like this decision in particular comes down to a lot of league specifics. Weekly starts vs daily starts, max number of pickups in your league. I just find the gulf between good goalies and lower tier goalies isn't as wide as the gulf between elite skaters and good skaters, so if you could package sid and shesterkin for someone top tier that would be MY strategy. But, I definitely see J0e Th0rnton's point and seems like your gut is saying stick with the two goalies, and you know your league best. Might still be good to put out feelers on what you could realistically get for that package and reassess.

This is a tough one, and probably don't have enough information to give a solid opinion. It would really help to have the rest of the details on your team/league setup.

I think Marner and Vasilevskiy are two obvious choices.

With regards to Shesterkin, I'm a huge fan and believe he is going to be a stud. But obviously there is some risk if that doesn't happen. Keeping him would depend on whether or not you think you can redraft him (what picks you have), how hard it is to find goalies in your league (primarily driven by league size), etc. So if goalies are tough to obtain, and highly valuable in your league, I could see you keeping a 2nd goalie. But in general, in a keep 4, I don't recommend it.

If you don't keep a second goalie, then no further decisions are required. But if you do, then it's down to Aho and Sid. Sid is still the better player, and while some people may have concern that he is 33 years old, I believe his intelligence and overall commitment to fitness will keep him fantasy relevant for a number of years. But if your team is being built on a longer time horizon, there is an argument for keeping Aho.

The other alternative is to shop Sid/Aho/Shesterkin around and see which one gets you the best return, and let that be your decision-maker.

Thanks for the input. It’s daily and can add drop as many as you want. I feel like Vas and Shesterkin could win me all goalie cats for years just with 2 players.

No, you would still need a 3rd goalie eventually(or you won't win the saves category, which goes to whoever has the most goalie starts that week) and because rolling with only 2 is injury/Covid pain. But having 2 who take the bulk of its teams starts is terrific. you can easily wait till later in the draft to get a james Reimer or somesuch to fill that need.

What is your draft situation? Got all your picks?

Only thing with that is Sid is 10 years older than Aho is. I think I’m talked into keeping the 2 goalies from most opinions overall

Rotisserie style, give me the 2 goalies, Marner, and probably Aho. I think Crosby is generally considered worth less, and given that, he might be easier to redraft if you want.

I could care less how old Sid is. He's the better option compared to Aho and probably will be for another 3-4 years at least. Last time I checked, age wasn't a category in fantasy hockey and if his age was a concern, why are you asking about him?.
