40 points is a maybe.

If Sam Bennett can ever realize he is a third line winger that needs to play in straight lines he can be solid NHLer. If he continues to think he is something that he's not he's going to continue to underwhelm.

I think he's still living on the 4th overall currency and I also think Florida overpaid for his services.

that said, I'm not sure what happened. After his 1st season of 18-18-36pts things looked good for him going forward. Who knew that would be his only 30pts season
He's un-owned in almost every pool I'm in so I can hope he finds his feet in Florida and get into that 40-50pt range.

Bennett is the kind of player Q LOVES. If he plays his playoff-game, he'll get a long leash. As a Bennett owner, I'm cutting bait if he doesn't make it in Florida.

Thing is, if Bennett gets the minutes, clicks with skilled top 6 players, he has skill himself and could get some Hyman-esque deployment. If all goes right, sure he could hit 55ish points. The kid is only 24.. he's got time, and the way he models his game, he could be effective anywhere. Maybe this is the right situation for him.

One day people are going to realize that NHL aging curves are much earlier than anyone wants to believe. Sam Bennett isn't "only" 24, he is already 24, he's played over 400 NHL games, he has received ample top 6 deployment and never done anything with it. He absolutely does not have the hockey intelligence to be a Hyman-type player.

I promise very few people have been a bigger Sam Bennett supporter than me since he was drafted, but he just doesn't have it. He would need full season deployment with McDavid to reach 55 points in a season, and he would never be given that type of run on a top line role because of his deficiencies. It's more likely Bennett is out of the league in 4 years than it is he ever reaches 50+ points.

Considering the assets spent to acquire him, he'll get his opportunities. Hard to say what will happen after that.
