I don't see how it would be fair to extend it.

So if I lost a handful of say, Vancouver games throughout the regular season, is it really fair to have like 10 extra starts during the championship finals? It would be wildly disproportionate.

Losing regular season games sucks, but it's not fair to get them all back in one big chunk during the finals of the entire season when they can change the entire outcome of the league.

And I say this as someone who owns guys Pettersson and Demko and would clearly benefit from getting all those games back in playoffs. It wouldn't be fair.

This decision actually makes a lot of sense to me.
Ideally they would extend for roto and not for head-to-head with playoffs.

my guess is that they had to or wanted to do an all or nothing for programming, and communication and practically reasons. My other guess is 80+% of Yahoo leagues are head-to-head (way more casual leagues then hardcore ones, especially on Yahoo).

Given how unfair it would be to extend the finals in head-to-head it was an easy call to not extend anything.
It would be nice if they gave GMs the option, but even that leads to a bag of worms where unscrupulous GMs pick and choose based on their teams roster.

Probably the right call given all the options.

if its a private league your commish can change end date in league setup >> teams and schedule>> schedule .

obviously consult with fellow league mates since there can be some conflicts of interest

    There's a difference between:

    1. Offering the option to extend but not implementing it, allowing leagues to decide (commish tools - choose end date).
    2. Not offering the option at all.

I'm not questioning whether or not it's feasible for leagues to implement it. But for Yahoo not to offer the option at all is laziness or they don't have the resources. It has nothing to do with competitiveness/fairness.

Agree with what you're saying but I expected this to be the case from day 1. It's Yahoo and hockey is their forgotten fantasy child.

It's a waste of time to debate if the fantasy season should or shouldn't be extended. Commissioners should have the option. Let the people decide for themselves.

"The NHL has adjusted their schedule to play make-up games after the original May 8th season end date. We have added the option to extend the scoring for rotisserie and points leagues through May 19th. If desired, you can adjust the 'Stop League Scoring On' league setting and choose the new option for Week 17."

Good for roto. H2H leagues probably a non-issue at this point. Good to see them finally respond.

in one (keeper) league, it was decided to stick with may 8th. many players transactions happened trying to get games in for may 8th so people didnt want to make changes to effect it.

in my other (keeper) league, many players transactions happened trying to get games in for may 8th and the majority of the league simply said boo freaking hoo for (my) roster mismanagement.... 12 days before the season ends..... due to an unprecedented and unexpected systematic change in the game format

    sigh.

Good for them to finally give the option but again (like the max games' issue at the start of the year) they waited too late given managers will be planning for the end date. They needed to be more proactive (especially when we asked for this weeks' ago) rather than waiting less than two weeks before the end of the original end of season.
