Default Trade ovi while he still has value??

I’m in a 12 team keeper league. Currently sitting at 3rd place. Can keep 9 players of any position. Points only league. I was offered Kuznetsov plus two 1st rounders in exchange for ovi (from the top team in the league). Seems like a good deal to me. Is it too early to trade ovi away? Not getting any younger. Or will I regret this deal?

    My current 9 keepers:
    Patty Kane
    Stamkos
    Ovi
    Tavares
    Backstrom
    Kopitar
    Perron
    Wheeler
Pavelski/Fred Anderson/MarcAndre Fleury??Not quite sure yet on the last spot)

Great question, one that I have been wrestling with for a couple of seasons as I own Ovechkin in 3 of my 4 keeper leagues. In a points only league, I would pull the trigger on that deal. Kuznetsov is 28 to Ovi's 35, plus you get 2 x 1st round picks. As much as it would pain me to do it, I don't know if you get a better deal. For me, it's either take the deal or ride Oven Chicken into retirement.

I'd shop him and gauge the returns.

Are those picks both from the top team in different years? Is Kuznetsov even a keeper for you?

Points only I would shop him before accepting Kuz.

What sort of players are those 1st rounds picks going to net you?

I'm with the others -- shop him then decide. The offers I get in my league for Ovechkin are laughable; my league mates just don't value him any more despite his continued offensive prowess. So you may not receive better offers. In that case, points only, I think I'd take the Kuznetsov and two 1sts (and hopefully one those two firsts end up translating into another keeper for you in a year or two). But if you don't get the right offer, be content to just sit back and take the production until he rides off into the sunset -- that's my plan now.

I'm one of those guys who doesn't buy older players. Age 33 forward is generally when even the best of them slow down.

But I'd shop him and see rather than accept the first offer

The skills that make Ovi valuable are old man skills, which he will retain longer than a normal player. He relies on strength, size, and shot, as opposed to skating, quickness, and speed. He can park in the left circle, receive passes, and finish for a few more years. His plus minus will likely degrade as what little defense he offers decreases. But the standard aging curve doesn't apply to him in the way it applies to the great majority of players.

Kuz would not be a keeper for me.... I haven’t shopped him anywhere else but I don’t imagine I would get a better offer of the picks.
At this point I’m thinking I might hold onto him??

If you haven't shopped him, you should.

Who went in round 1 last year? Trying to gauge the best non-kept players.

A few players from round 1:

Boeser, O'Rielly, Burns, Keller, Demko. That’s all I can remember

In a points only set up I would leaning towards taking that offer. If I did I would be using one of those first round picks to gamble on a guy that could be a future keeper. You have to hit on one of those two picks to make the deal a win.

No one wanted Ovi in my league. Every single person said he was washed up and too old. I had 6 keepers going into next year and can only keep 4. I traded him and carlson for matt tkachuk + rust + a 2nd round. Im 100% sure he got the better deal, but it was the best i could get out of ANY one in the league. Im still in a bye week spot for playoffs and have my 4 keepers set for next year. Its been hard to trade him haha, good luck!
