Canucks COVID situation

Didnt see a thread on this. Canucks not playing at all this week, half the team at least has tested positive.

This is a tough time of year for an outbreak with less time to fit in games. If you are targeting anyone in the North division you might wanna check the shcedule before picking them up - they might have been scheduled to play Vancouver. Although the NHL will try to add some games to teams schedules this week where possible

Can't find the source right now but I've read the season will be extended until May 14 to finish the North Division games. The other divisions might start playoffs sooner.

And Utica, their farm team hasn't played in 3 weeks and any players called up to fill holes will have to quarantine before joining the team. Also, I think I read on the Athletic that Baertschi can't be called up as an emergency fill-in since his salry is >$1M

I'm wondering if the Canucks actually need to finish all their games by the time the playoffs starts. Right now, they are six points behind Montreal and the Habs have three games in hand. If Montreal picks up four points, Vancouver is pretty much done.

Instead of forcing the Canucks to play an awful gruelling schedule, it might make sense if the schedule is rejigged so Vancouver plays Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton first. Then they can play Calgary and Ottawa during the first couple of weeks of the playoffs just to get the 56 games in (I'm assuming the league wants every team at 56 games to make it easier for deciding draft position). Sure, it's not a great situation as those games would be overshadowed, but it might be the best option.

The league doesn't need to make this decision now, but if they wait a week or two after the Canucks get back, Vancouver might be even further behind in the standings.

It's worth noting MLB dropped a couple games at the end that had no playoff implications. I can see the same happening here if Vancouver is out of the running. Pure speculation though since we don't even have a return date.

Their last series are (that aren't postponed yet):
Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary.

You can cancel likely 2 of them, but Toronto and Edmonton have some standings implications still and likely at those final series.
