I'm sure some are saying, why is this worth noting? He's been in waivers already. I'm posting it because I think he actually gets claimed this time. He's got 5pts in 10 games and could be a nice "free" acquisition prior to the trade deadline for teams looking for a potential top six winger. The skill has always been there for him but injuries have derailed his progress. We'll see, but I expect him to be headed out of Detroit this time.

Oilers are still looking for a top six LW themselves, and Holland drafted the kid in the first round. I wonder if he takes another shot at him.

Waivers are becoming the new offer sheet. Don't claim another team's player out of fear they might claim your 3rd string goalie in four years as revenge.

It's a free pick up. If they aren't good you waive them too. Other than the teams adding an additional contract, I don't see the issue.

We don't know if they're good or not because teams are not even trying

It's not like coach and GM jobs are on the line or anything...

I think coaching jobs are on the line far more than GM jobs. GM's generally get 2 coaches, sometimes more, and they get recycled when they aren't good (looking at you, Chuck Fletcher) which while also somewhat true for coaches, the GM has much less day-to-day managing of personalities, and has a far easier job in terms of what they have to deal with on a day-to-day basis.

Those "other players" are replaceable. That's why they're looking.

Not every team is full on contracts (only the Flyers) is capped out (about 10 teams projected to be capped out) and also running a full taxi squad with nobody that they could send to the AHL.

Hockey GM's are way too sheepish about making claims.
