Default Fransisco Lindor - 10 year, $341 million

Thissssssssssss is crazy! How is he getting more money than Tatis in 4 fewer years!?!? I can see this being ugly by year 5 of the deal.

    https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article...-million-deal/

Lindor was eligible for free agency after this season and said this spring he wouldn't negotiate with the Mets on a long-term contract after opening day. Less than 24 hours before New York starts its season Thursday night in Washington, an agreement was reached.

The 27-year-old Lindor has two Gold Gloves and made four All-Star teams in six seasons with the Indians, hitting .285 with an average of 29 homers, 86 RBIs and 21 stolen bases per 162 games.

He was the prized pickup in new owner Steve Cohen's first off-season, acquired from Cleveland along with right-hander Carlos Carrasco for infielders Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez and two minor leaguers. New York added Lindor knowing he could walk after the 2021 season, but the team said it would try to negotiate a long-term pact.

MLB Network was first to report on the agreement.

Lindor will retain his $22.3 million salary for 2021 before the contract kicks in for 2022.

The deal will be the largest ever for a shortstop, passing Fernando Tatis Jr.'s $340 million, 14-year contract with San Diego signed in February. Only Mike Trout's $426.5 million, 12-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels and Mookie Betts' $365 million, 12-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers are worth more. Betts' deal includes $115 million in deferred payments through 2044.

Lindor's deal is also by far the largest payout ever from the Mets, surpassing contracts for third baseman David Wright ($138 million), pitchers Jacob deGrom ($137.5 million) and Johan Santana ($137.5 million).

Its because Tatis Jr had less leverage based on team control/arbitration and Tatis had 2yrs of MLB service time, that's it.

    Tatis deal also includes:
    - Full NTC through 2028
    - MNTC after (13 team NTC)
    - Hotel suite on all road trips
    - the right to purchase premium luxury suite
    - 4 of the best premium season tickets for all Padres home games
    - Also gives up a portion of his deal to Big League Advance where he accepted an upfront payment yrs ago for a percentage of future deals.

Curious if that will be included in Lindors (obviously not the last point). Lindor held the Mets hostage with this because he knew they'd eventually pay or he'd get it in FA.

    Wow... that is massive.

This contract is going to be crippling when Lindor is in his mid 30s.

And that is some interesting facts about Tatis' contract that I never knew. - Thanks 2014OG

That "Big League Advance" portion of Tatis deal is something that international players do apparently quite often where a struggling kid who needs some form of income while playing professional baseball at like 16 for their families, but as a form of re-payment, the company wants a percentage of all future Major League deals.

Tatis was just the largest paycheque ever to need to do this.

Lindor is gonna be an anchor at this contract at 35 and need to be a 3B likely at 33yrs old. I guess the Mets are hoping for an increase in cap by then, and Cohen has a ton of money so right now doesn't matter to him if he can build a competitive team and win right from the start of his ownership.
