Question Rank My Top Prospects? REP Given!

In Points Only, how do you rank these 5 guys? I don't know a load about prospects besides which ones were drafted high recently or which ones are high on Dobber's prospect list. Anything I should know about any of these 5 - like they're years and years away, or they're can't miss, or anything else you think you know about them? Thanks! I can keep them in minors for as long as they're under 100 GP, but I can only own and keep 5 a year.

I'm not a prospect guru, but I will say all 5 are very good with high upside. My personal opinion, Denisenko is probably the closest to playing in the NHL over the rest, but I don't see them being too far behind.

Based on upside alone, I’d say..

Another factor to consider is the current makeup of the pro roster that the prospect is hoping to break into. Their cap situation and perhaps most importantly the franchise history of developing prospects

    I agree with the ranking

    Newhook
    Perfetti
    Holtz
    McMichael
    Denisenko
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Crazy thing is, I was shocked a month ago to see Newhook on the waiver wire! Snapped him up right away - no idea why he wasn't taken. Many teams are keeping far worse minors than him, so I was pumped to snag him for free.

All good choices, although I have doubts about Denisenko, as he doesn't have a year in which he has "popped" and taken a leap. It's been good but not great for each year since his draft year. I'd like to see a dominant year.

I personally think Holtz, Newhook & Perfetti have the highest upside of these 5 (but I know there's a lot of McM fans here).

    1) Holtz - high-end talent, great situation with space in NJ for his ascension as well as being lined-up alongside Hughes or Hischier.

    2) Newhook - Think he's a high-end talent too - but possibly a longer incubation to hit it due to the crowd in COL. (I can see COL maxing his ELC years and maybe a 'bridge' deal too while they're in their cup window... meaning it could be 4-5 years before he gets optimal deployment)

    3) Perfetti - Solid solid talent and not too much blocking the way for him to join WPG. PP1 may take a bit longer, but regular top-six and PP2 I think could happen fairly quickly (next year or two). In other words, I like his 'situation' better than Newhook but prefer Newhook's ultimate upside more than Perfetti.

    4) McMichael - Really good player and should be able to join WSH in the coming year or two. Not likely to get PP1 action until OV/Backstrom/Oshie move on... meaning hitting his upside is likely a number of years away. Seeing how Vrana's been deployed this year makes me nervous around any short-term opp's in WSH.

    5) Denisenko - Really good player who I think adds a little extra in multi-cat leagues. He could also hit big with a chance to line-up next to Barkov in the coming year or two... or spend the next few years on line 3 (see Tippett) with a bit of PP2. Still a very good prospect but the one I'm personally least confident about of these 5.

Not a prospect guru either so take all this just as my 2c. Good luck choosing!

Thanks guys! I'm pretty pumped that after drafting Perfetti early-ish and Holtz & McMicheal super late in my league this year, I was able to pick up Newhook (surprised he was available) and Denisenko as FA's this season. We only have 5 minors keeper slots and now I'm very happy with mine! Thanks mostly to the Dobber prospect list and NOT my wisdom, haha.

Expect a couple if not all need more than 100 NHL games to truly reach production levels you need to be on your roster (unless your pool is ulta deep).
That said, monitor close as the wait (and a low producing roster spot) will pay off down the road.
I see Denisenko & Newhook being the closest to NHL.

Denisenko could be a bit of a slow burn in his first two seasons.

Holtz IMO the most likely to be an immediate impact when he arrives.
