Just what the world needs, another buy-low on Zibby thread

So yes. I know this has been discussed to death. But I am in an interesting situation.

I am in 2nd place. 1st place GM owns Zibby. He’s an oddball GM, makes some great calls and some terrible calls, but his weak spot has always been current market value — he overvalues hot players and wants nothing to do with cold players.

He’s also my league’s black hole GM, so there’s that — not super responsive, or engages in trade talk then just goes dark when you’re trying to close. To be honest dealing with him is torture LOL. Not sure why I do it.

Anyway — I know Zibby is available. He’s asked about D, as he needs more in a bad way — he own Reilly and Letang and then a rag-tag collection of waiver scrubs.

I like Zibby a lot for a rebound, but of course the longer this goes on for, the more risk there is for me, particularly this season. My D has held up OK but it’s definitely not an all-star corps, though it’s better than his.

The question is, do I trade him a D-man for Zibby?? If positive regression kicks in like it should, I would take an elite player off his roster and put him on mine, which would probably mean I win the chip (barring covid chaos), plus it would give me a great keeper going forward. But if Zibby is just a full-write off this season then I might be handing it to him instead — a little push on D could really put him over the top.

Team is in Sig — of Barrie, Kling, Krug, Pionk, who would you give up if any of them for Zibby? I’d do it in a heartbeat for R. Anderson but I doubt he goes for that. My instinct is Pionk, particularly as he values hot players and Pionk is on a 60-pt pace even without PP1. And Krug is a maybe... the name value might get it done, but he could also heat way up down the stretch with Tank back.

It’s a tricky one — the kind of thing that can pay off huge or completely backfire. I’m torn! Advice and / or strong opinions highly appreciated!

I'm a Zibby owner, and have been resigned to just riding it out. He does have points in consecutive games, and points in 5 of his last 7. Plus the Rangers' offense is showing signs of life lately. That being said, if someone offered me one of those dmen for him, I would definitely strongly consider it. I'm still a little sceptical on Pionk though. Plus I think those other guys have a bit more name value.

I'd make an offer, giving him a choice of the 2 guys you want least. Giving him the choice adds value to him, and makes him think about it, which gets you into his head forcing him to consider responding.

In my league, even though Zibbby's owner is frustrated, I know he wouldn't move him for any of these D. Especially in a goal heavy format like yours, where Zib should shine if he rebounds. My gut tells me you'll have to add another piece. And it's a leap of faith, but in a keep 15, I think I would pay a little extra to pry him away if you can.
