Mackinnon vs Matthews

Ive been offered Matthews for my Mackinnon. Looking for any advice on who would be the better own in this type of setup moving forward? Team in sig. thanks!

I still think MacKinnon has points upside that is, at least right now, still higher than Matthews. I know youre getting a lot of goals with Matty but I want the overall upside. I know right now it looks like it might be the other way around but that's not what most thought before the season started I would think - so until we get a bigger sample size I'm deferring to that. Not that you couldnt do the deal if you really want your boy Matthews, but they should have to add I think. They are trying to buy Mack while the hype is a little bit down and sell Matthews while he scores at will.

Im keeping MacKinnon. They could be about even in every single category but theres one think that makes me pick MacKinnon over Matthews and thats Matthews health concerns. It seems like he is missing games every season. He had bad injuries on both his shoulders I think(feel free to correct me on this one).

It's basically a coin flip in a many leagues. Matthews gets a bump if it's faceoff wins or fo%. Cap it's MacKinnon in a landslide.

I think this season they are very similar, however, moving forward Matthews will go back to his division with TB and Bos and that will make Mackinnon the more valuable.

Agree with CaptainCanuck and caution reading too much into this years stats to understand how they will perform in follow-on years. Mackinnon has played in 19 games so far this year and 4 of those games have been against Vegas who is significantly better defensively than any team in the North Division. I see them being fairly equal, and would really like to see how they perform once we get back to "regular" season play next year. If you are a Leafs/Matthews fan I would have no issues in making this trade.

They are both top tier and I'd be tickled pink having either, but I'd choose Matthews.

I find goals harder to come by.
He's two years younger.
Comparing their rookie and sophomore seasons, Matthews was better than Mack. So I think Matthews is still on the upswing of getting to his upside, while Mack is at his (extremely impressive) upside already.

I’m taking Mack here. Love them both and like many have said, it could be a coin flip really. But long term, I’m taking Mack but not by a huge margin. It looks like you’re a Matthews fan so don’t regret taking his side if you go that path. They’re both obviously superstars!

That's a tough one.

Mack is a safer bet given Matthew's health issues, but I'm biased so I'll take Matthews. I think he's got another gear we haven't seen yet (until this year).
