Personally I am a big chess fan, and I've lately taken to the 1min/side chess games online. Up into the 97th percentile. Fun way to waste two minutes and not be tied up for any real length of time. Randomly I'm also the highest online rater battleship player, but those are both two person games and I feel like you're looking for a family thing.
Catan, ticket to ride and codenames are three of the favourites with my friend group. For some reason euchre and hearts also plays well with that same group.
Quorridor is also a fun one once you get the hang of it. Nice 2-4 player open strategy game (similar mindset to chess).

One Night Ultimate Werewolf.
this is great with drunks, as well as with my kids indeed. And then the expansion packs Daybreak, or the vampire/alien/supervillain options. So many ways to play it.
Some fun ways to play this on discord servers as well
Not a board game but Exploding Kittens is a lot of fun

Pandemic is always awesome. Zombicide is good challenging fun. I still play Blood Bowl from time to time.

Agree with this. Sequence is great.
Are you looking for family board games? My kids love Scattegories. A variation of that is a game called "Can You Roll Doubles?" There are 25 categories, and one person starts answering as many as they can. Meanwhile, the person next to them is rolling two die. Once they roll doubles, they grab the game board and start filling in the blanks (including finishing the words the previous person couldn't finish).
Also Super Big Boggle is a lot of fun (like normal Boggle, except it's 6X6 and words have to be at least four letters).
There's a few more I have. I'll try to add them tomorrow.

I'm way into board games. Love them. If you're looking for something with fairly universal appeal, I recommend Splendor. Azul is another. Wingspan has wide appeal, but is a little bit more complicated in its gameplay. Dominion is a solid deck-builder, if that gameplay piques your interest at all.
If you really get into board games, you can dive into boardgamegeek.com and poke around.
Wow I have not even heard of any of these so far except for chess. Hahahah.
I was a big Risk fan back in the day. Played it everyday while I was on workers comp and my my buddies were on unemployment. Like seriously everyday.

Monopoly and Risk are always fun.
For Monopoly, my brother and I came up with a variation that is tons of fun, but you need a good 5-6 players to make it work. You can cut out straight money players if you don't have enough people.
It's called unfair chance at life Monopoly, and you assign (draw for) roles.
The Vanderbilt: Double the money to start
The Government: 1.5x the money to start, not allowed to buy properties, but starts with the utilities, and collects all luxury tax, income tax, fines, chance and community chest cards, jail fees. Can buy railroads. Can buy mortgaged properties and invest in other people's house or hotel developments, for a cut.
Regular players: Straight money
Poverty line: Half the money to start and Mediterranean ave
Poverty line 2: Half the money and Baltic Ave
The Boxcar Hobo: Starts with two railroads and 20$.
All players can trade of course.
You wouldn't believe it, but when we first started this we gave the boxcar hobo all the railorads to start and that role dominates the game every time.. So we scaled it back lol.
Try it.

While I'm kind of over the style of game where everyone submits an answer and someone votes on the best/funniest response (like Cards against humanity or Awkward Family Photo).... Telestrations is pretty fun twist on that.
