    Default Seguin vs Konecny

    Hi all

I received an offer for my Konecny vs his Seguin. I have no chance to win this year and this GM is very high on Konecny.

I think I will refuse, but I still want your opinion!

    Thanks

Konecny is definitely a buy-low candidate currently. He started quick, but really cooled off with Couturier out... and then once he came back, Konency went on IR due to COVID.

If that GM is high on Konecny, sell him for future draft picks, rather than a fringe, injury riddled, aging Seguin.
(Don't get me wrong, Seguin is still good, but is now on the decline where Konency still has lots of potential upside in a 12 man keeper going forward).

The other GM is trying to buy low, but if you have no reason to get rid of a young stud who is cold, I'll hold on to him or make him make the offer better.

    Cheers

If you’re not pushing for it this year I would hold, TK will bring you way more value moving forward than Seguin will. If he was offering futures or a younger player that would be way more interesting to me.

    Thanks.

You confirm what I though. I just want to confirm that I was not over estimating Konecny and miss a real talent in Seguin.

Sheest people make Seguin sound like old news because he's been out.

The guy is 29, not 34, and 2 seasons removed from ppg.

Sure, he's coming off of major surgery but guys have bounced back before, and he seems to have a good attitude, and is taking his time with it to get back to normal.

I'm pretty high on Seguin moving forward, regardless of him being closer to 30.

This I don't disagree. The question is more relative to Konecny.

I'm just saying if fully healthy, and playing up to his level Seguin >> Konecny, and he's done it a long time.

For me, Seguin is my 2 yr keeper which is perfect slotting, if for instance you could have Konecny for longer, then sure stick with him, but if Seguin fits in the right spot and you'd have a similar time frame with Konecny, I'd go Seguin.

Plus the fact Seguin is closing in on a return, potentially in just over a month.

If you're not competing - keep the younger player on the upswing of his career vs. the older guy who's had some larger injuries & production has waned over the last 3 seasons

    keep Konecny

Lots of people are down on Seguin, but just holding is very simplified without consideration of contracts, situation, what they’ve proven to this point, etc. I guess I’m just not of the belief Seguin is washed because of an injury plagued year/drop in production. If he returns this season, and struggles next season, then sure maybe have to adjust expectations, but pretty recently he’s been a ppg guy.

I’ve been very patient with him, so I’m happy to take that risk, and Konency has question marks still, as good as he was last year. Meier looked great for 1 season and he looks like a 3rd liner now, basically both guys have lots to prove still. You can not be competing this year, and be competing next year; now if you’re in a full rebuild then yeah hold. Depends a lot on team composition too, if you think you could make a jump up next year then I’d want Seguin.

Definitely I take a jump next year. I am very unlucky this year. After McDavid, Aho, M. Tkachuk, my keepers are Kucherov, Hall, Teravainen and Konecny. I also have Garland, Necas, Fiala, Mantha, Meier, Marchesseault and D. Strome.

On D I have OEL, Pietrangelo, Makar, Sergachev, Burns, Brannstrom, and just dropped DeAngelo.

    Goalie: Lenher and Vasilevskyi.

So look like I have a solid core but in a down year.

Sounds pretty solid man, I know the feeling on having a down year, I finished 4th last year and have similar core this year, and drafted well I felt and I've been struggling lately.

We're a keep 4 + rookie carry over so not familiar with having that many keepers haha.

We keep 12 out of these 22, plus all players under 150g.

I have looked at the advance stats of both players and Konecny is not a volume shooter and had a much higher S% last year compare to previous year. Seguin is the opposite.

On top of that the OGM added his last free agent access to the offer while I have none. This is an asset that poolers trade their mom for at this point, moreover the GMs that compete for the 1st place!
