I wouldn't be shocked if Molson and Bergevin decide to say F' IT to the politics and simply hire the best person for the job, this team needs to start winning.

It would be a headline for a couple weeks, but it's not like the fans are going to the game anyways.

But more realistically Joel Bouchard will probably be the next full time head coach.

That should have been their train of thought YEARS ago LOL! I dont see it changing now but stranger things have happened I suppose.

There is no reason why your GM in Quebec needs to be bilingual.

It makes more sense for a coach to speak Russian than a GM to speak French honestly.

Man this is a loaded statement which makes me feel you don't completely understand the language dynamic in the province of Quebec.

Black and White, you're right, it doesn't, but this isn't a black and white problem/scenario.

I think most fans, no matter where they are living, would say this is true. You should want the best possible option even if they dont speak french, but that's just the way they operate and have since 1970 when they last had an English only speaking head coach.

What would MTL rather have, a better GM and a translator, or a GM that can speak french?

I've never understood why the bluecollar fan needs to listen to a french speaking GM/Coach about Losses and would hate hearing it in english but is ok with Anglophone owning the team.

Exactly, take some time do some research or educate yourself on the language debate in the province of Quebec.

You're right. I forgot about that. Takes Babcock out of the running too I would think. Scratch my previous thoughts.

    What makes more sense:
    - We don't want him because of the language he speaks
    - We want you since you speak french and the Canadiens were establish for francophone hockey players, so we embrace our roots by hiring and promoting people who otherwise wouldn't get a chance at a job because they aren't expanding outside of Quebec

I understand they want to hire a person with roots in MTL because of the history of the team. And the history of the previous Anglophone (interim) HC and the hate from the media for it. But it REALLY makes no sense to solely have leadership roles solely for francophone/french speaking people. If the team does it for "embracing roots", why not "groom" someone for a leadership role under a better candidate?

The management team is doing it solely for media backlash. Which is frustrating because every HC has been fired without winning a cup over the last like 20yrs. Right? Media backlash will happen if you lose, regardless at who is at the helm, just a matter of time. The next thing is, how long does MB have? He's played his final trump card hasn't he? If he hires THE best possible coach, if it fails he's out. If he hires the best Francophone coach and it fails, he's out. How much rope does he have left and will hiring an Anglophone change that rope length.

Again, take some time and do some research about it.

    It's not that simple.

I'm not going to derail this thread with the political side of the language debate in the province of Quebec.

It's a very complicated and layered conversation that I don't think is best suited for a message forum back and forth.

I would love to see some of his post-game interviews when he is asked a question in French...

And then has one of his awesome sound-bites.
