If that Gallagher goal isn't called off last night wonder if they still have jobs.

A little surprising. I didn't think it was as obvious as some other teams in need of a coaching change.

I am surprised that there wasn't more leniency here with the uniqueness of the season.

There's been some leniency for awhile, but the fall back was always that the skill/talent level wasn't there.

A bit of a different story now with the roster they've put together.

Case in point Jordan Weal was living on the PP for no reason at all other than Claude liked him.

I posted this in the 'first coach fired' thread, but it likely may be more relevant here.

I think it was in E. Freidman's latest 31 thoughts that he postulates whether a team would make the move now to get Babcock given there is a set date for when he will start in Saskatchewan.

I'm not saying the Habs did this to go after Babcock before he starts and is less likely to come back to the NHL, and they do have interim coaches in place in Montreal now, but it's a possibility and could explain why they made the move mid-season like this.

Habs will miss the defensive system but the offense wasn't there... The PP... oh boy... It's a personnel issue too.. but they need a coach who can get the offense to make a difference...

    consistently make a difference.....

Someone has to turn Drouin into a star scorer...

Also, I would have fired him for choosing Perry in the shootout.. What the heck was that, and he was awful. Zero effort there.

It would be funny if he could coach Montreal for free and have the Leafs still pay him.

Habs looked unbeatable early on. The NHL is a fickle mistress.

Problem is that its all 50-60 point talent, no game breakers that doe it game in and game out...Yes they are very stacked and even throughout a line up but once one line stops scoring, the "waves of offence" that made them successful early on get weaker and then another line slumps and its a domino effect. With the set up they have you need to expect periods of excellence and periods of bad...MB pulled a trigger quick as he is worrying about his own butt imo. New coach comes in and he will also have great stretches and bad stretches.

imo they are a lot better than last 10 or whatever games and not as good as their start.

The NHL is a clown show.

Julien deserved it. As stated - Perry in the shootout...or really even in the line-up. Chiarot out in OT over and over and continually giving up the puck. We'll see how it goes.

Re Babcock. He's a dick and everyone knows it. The Habs have zero interest. Gallant or Boudreau as EB stated in his write-up make good sense.

Gallant isn't bilingual. His name may sound like he should be, but I know he doesn't speak french. It won't happen. I am not sure about Boudreau. Again, another name that is French sounding but not sure if he par-lays.

We all know how it has to be a bilingual coach in there.
