More numbers as they come in.
It will be the longest contract signed in MLB history. Giancarlo Stanton, now with the New York Yankees, signed a 13-year, $325 million deal with Miami in 2015. Bryce Harper signed a 13-year, $330 million deal with Philadelphia in 2019. The biggest deal by dollars remains Mike Trout's $426.5 million, 12-year deal signed with the Angels in 2019.
Not bad for a guy who was a part of mighty James Shields deal.

I get that these guys want financial security, but this will probably be the last contract this guy signs. It takes him to the age 35. You have to think that they are probably losing out on bigger AAV contracts by signing these long term deals. I mean, how much money is too much money but we all know how their ego's get in the way. My math tells me that his AAV over this contract will be $24.2M. Once other SS start making $30M+, he's going to be looking back on his contract and saying he wished he had signed a shorter deal.
As I say, how much money does on person need, but this is usually more about ego than dollar bills. Thats why you see basketball contracts usually short term, because they know they can get more money with their next one. For Tatis, there won't be a next one, or at least not another big money one.

Yeah, evaluating international prospects future in the big leagues is a tricky process. For example up to date only three guys from 2016 a.k.a "year of Tatis trade" Top-30 list (Luis Robert, Randy Arozarena and Lourdes Gurriel) carved out a major role in the MLB club roster.

Tatis got 2.4mill/game he's played in the MLB...
He won't be a Padre for 14yrs, won't happen. Baseball deals are ridiculous. Dolls out 24mill/yr to a 22yr old with 143mlb games and the sport complains about lost revenue.

It has a full NTC, so unless he wants out, he ain't going anywhere.
I think this was my favorite tweet from yesterday after this announcement.

When Fernando Tatis Jr’s contract ends, the Mets will still have one year left to pay Bobby Bonilla.

I just don't think they really last. I guess it depends on the management really, but man I don't think a player can last ona team 14yrs.
Prior to the top deals (Trout, Machado, Harper, Tatis, Betts), the longest deals 4 of the 6 haven't finished the deal off. Add Jeter, so 4/7 didn't finish off their deals. Just my thoughts on this. I can see him wanting out if they don't win eventually. Imagine if they get snuffed the next 2-3yrs by Dodgers? That team is already typecasted as the "bad-boys", if those teams don't win they get mad at each other.
