I don't care if he came basically for free. I don't like it. I don't really like him. On the Marlies with Sandin/Robertson, ugh, hopefully they're told - look at him. don't be like that.

He could be a useful depth piece for them, if theyre really lucky he'll catch fire with Tavares.

Most likely this amounts to nothing and his cap hit is buried since he makes so little. Dzingel for Paquette and a bit of cap space is a good trade for Carolina in my books.

Can't help wonder what he would have looked like if he had some time to marinate in the minors before being pushed into the spotlight.

    No Galchenyuk...
Who's ranking is this? It completely misses the 2 best dmen and the best forward from this draft. Also, I doubt anyone is using a top 5 pick in this draft on Matt Murray right now. I don't think he's even one of the 5 best GOALIES from this draft. I would have all of Vasilevski, Hellebuyck, Andersen, Driedger and Ullmark ahead of him.

Murray has 2 cups. It’s not a “right now” it’s an overall. I think I grabbed it off the Hockey News...

The guy did have 7pts in 14games with the Wild last yr. He's not going to be much on the Leafs, but if he gets a shot, he could instantly be playing with the best players he's player with since he was on Crosby's line that one time...

Leafs also drafted Korshkov over DeBrincat. Loo+Hunter drafts were something else sometimes
Kinda not fair... they likely were still riding the high of their "AM34 Orgasm" at pick 31. They could have picked me at that point. lol

Very true haha. They spent all their scouting capital on going to see AM in Europe just to find enjoyment in that terrible yr of hockey, so they couldn't scout anyone else that yr.:-P

I agree with that. That's a good part of it.

I will always contend that Therrien ruined him and his confidence. The Habs wanted Galchenyuk to be a centre, so in his second year, he plays third-line wing and he took a total of 15 faceoffs. This continued for years.

In 2014-15, he started off with seven points in his first seven games. In the next two games, his ice time is cut to 15:04 and 12:41.

You mess with a kid's psyche enough, it's going to impact his confidence. If he's going to be in the NHL, he would have been better off in the first couple of years playing third-line centre. Let him get practice at faceoffs and force him to develop more of an all-around game at the position. Reward him for hard work by giving him more ice time/responsibility/promotion to the second line. It was weird. He was either third-line winger or first-line centre. Never a third-line centre or top-six winger.

Therrien was never good at playing and developing the Habs' young players, especially at forward. You could argue Gallagher, but Gallagher's best two seasons came the two years after Therrien was fired. Maybe Pacioretty, but by the time Therrien arrived, Pacioretty already had a 33-goal, 65-point season where he averaged over 18 minutes a night. For defense, you could argue Subban, but again, he was somewhat established before Therrien. Therrien had a habit of always going with his veterans no matter how many mistakes he made, but benching young guys when they screwed up.

Obviously Galchenyuk has to shoulder some of the responsibility, but if you don't allow a player to succeed, then why be surprised when he fails?

What happened in Montreal and what is happening now are two different things. In Montreal he was a borderline star at one point and it never happened. Shared blame. He's not strong enough to rise up on his own and the team messed with him a lot.

Now he's at a point where he's borderline not good enough to be in the league. The last two years combined he has 25 points in 67 games. He's hardly contributing.

I don’t think he had the tools. Happens to lots of guys. Agree with the points on Therrien but if he had the tools he might have figured it out. It’s half him half team but he’s had the chances to redeem and it never worked. It happens. I wish him luck.
