Default Trade fallout. This blew my mind.

League in signature and all relevant info is in there.

    I traded away Kakko for Pavelski, 7th in 2021 and a 5th in 2022.

What side do you prefer and why?

3 people in the league went berserk and were vocal about their displeasure.

If you want to know strategic details, I am going for the win this year before I change all my old keepers to graduating new ones. Therefore this is my last shot. Kakko is minors eligible for another 11 games and this was known to both parties.

With Kakko graduating out of a prospect keeper slot while not being all that productive I'd much prefer the Pavelski side considering the specific scoring.

yeah I can see most go nuts as Pavelski is so undervalued. I had to move him this summer for cap reasons and I was so upset as I basically had to give him away.

With tech he youth you have you can easily move kakko to land a better chance at a win.

But yes you might have been able to get more. Not sure how much more though

As you've probably noticed a lot of people that play fantasy hockey don't understand player values in their own league. They just see a name and react.

The only part of that trade that gives me pause is the 2020 draft pick. Is that a type-o?

Otherwise - one guy going for it, and one guying buying hype and hoping for the future.

And "potential" is overvalued more than anything. If people don't understand that....let them complain while you win.

What were they going berserk about? Someone trying to win the league instead of using roster spots on young players and waiting for the future every year?

All the reactions from the other league GMs tell me is that you probably could have gotten a bigger return from someone else. I don't think it's a bad trade in your situation though. Maybe a missed opportunity if people value Kakko so highly.

I'm also curious to hear the rationale behind the "going beserk" side? Did they think you got too much? I'm not sure Kakko is even a keeper in your format for many teams.

I don't see a problem with this and I don't necessarily prefer either side. As long as you and the other GM believe it fits the goals of your respective timelines then it's good.

On the one hand I can picture GMs getting upset that a "stud" prospect was traded for "an old man and some late picks" and they would've totally given you a better deal, but..... I can also see GMs being mad that a contender strengthened their team AND landed extra draft picks for a guy who might not be worth a keeper spot. Maybe there are other things they could be upset about but those feel like they'd be two of the most common angles.

One thing I find curious about your post is that you don't say which way the complainers were leaning. I like that in the sense that you might get the raw interpretation some people might feel when they see those assets up against each other. Still, its tough to conclude on a "winner" without seeing the other team as well. Regardless, I think that aspect isn't too important as long as the bolded part above holds true.

People are going to bitch, it doesn't matter which way it goes but somehow this trade hurts them. Thats their problem, not yours or your trade partners.

Thanks guys, I purposefully left out what side was the catalyst for their anger as I figured the reaction on here would be one of confusion on what was an even and fairly negotiated trade.

It was me acquiring Pavelski that some thought was egregiously beneficial for me. What a world.

I'm curious, was it your direct competition that didn't like it primarily?

If so what else are you trying to do in a competitive fantasy pool?!?!

Im fine with it, if you're going for the win. With Seguin missing most of this season, Pavelski's value should be a lot higher than normal. His age is what holds his value back more than his production and some people tend to focus on that number more than the fantasy numbers.
