Maybe. I dont remember Rutherford's name coming up in those talks. More Guerin's than anyone elses.

Whether Guerin kept it from Rutherford or not... we may never know.
Guerin says he "promptly brought them to Pittsburgh Penguins senior management."
But the world tends to speculate... and finger-point.
And sometimes the stress of that alone... coming up Rutherford's way... is enough stress to have a man step down.

In Pennsylvania, it’s too reminiscent of Joe Paterno, who had nothing to do with abusing teens, then DID report Sandusky to his superior - the Athletic Director - then his “crime” was to trust the A.D. and administration to run the investigation. It later came out (post-mortem, of course) that Paterno asked PSU trustees about the allegations, and was told he had no right to know, once Sandusky was out of the football program.

so IF this has anything to do with a “chain of command” allegation, I doubt that resignation, retirement, or even death will protect his name. Proof or not.

Whoever they hire, they're going to have their work cut out for them. An aging roster, few picks and quality prospects in the system. Not sure how someone new wants to take the roster and run with it. JR was all about going for it year after year and sold the future to make it happen. Not much left to sell except the veterans.

Going to be very interesting to see how the new GM wants to go with this team.

It is ugly, no doubt, but Arizona found a taker for that position in short order. The Pens shouldn’t have too much trouble filling that spot either and likely they’ll follow the JR plan for a few more seasons.

I am told by multiple sources this morning Jim Rutherford was working on a Kris Letang trade to one of the teams he can be traded to.
Ownership did not want him doing this.
It forced an untenable situation.
So here we are.
