Aww man I’m going to miss listening to Burkey on the radio all the time.

I think Burkey is a solid manager/upper management guy. No nonsense, but he actually cares about what moves mean to families and the ripple effect that he does. He should be employed by an NHL team.

It will be interesting to see these two work together. I'm sure both were notified who had what role and it will be interesting to know how much influence Burke has on hockey deals. Typically, that's the GMs job.

If the rumors are true as to why Rutherford left in the first place (Letang trade vetoed by higher ups), I'm curious how ownership will feel about having a say, or lack their of, going forward.

I'm pretty sure Burke is a guy who let's ownership know that if you're hiring him, that it's his ship and piss off in his business.

    Going to be interesting indeed.

Makes me think maybe the rumors weren't true then because Burke has always made it very clear he gets both hands on wheel when he's in a role.

Burke didn't get involved (that we knew w if) in Calgary when it came to wheeling and dealing. That was Treliving. I have to assume it will be that way with Hextall. I can't see Hexy taking this job if that's not going to be his role as GM.

Burke lets and wants to have people do their jobs simple way to put it.

GM does his, Pres does his, Ownership does theirs. Don't do other peoples jobs, just yours

The bolded sounds like Hextall just a wee bit.

    IDK.
For me, Burke is part of the "scrub" of putting new faces in key places for PIT.
I don't think Burke needs or will want to be super active at this point in his lifespan.
I think he'll let Hextall do his job.

PIT is "getting back to hockey".
    Hextall/Burke are big names...
    But...
Ultimately, PIT is a shitshow for assets down their pipeline...

That said... if you are looking for two names to keep the momentum away from the Skalde/Donatelli issue...
These are two good names to distract Pens fans & media.

Super good move by the PIT organization...
Even if it's too late to right their future.
