I'm guessing this is points only? If it's multi-cat, Nelson should have trade value.
I'd probably look elsewhere for a pickup, though.
He’s available (FA). As I’m not competing this year, thought about taking a chance on him. Buffalo wants him to succeed. Do you think he’ll get enough opportunities to get there? Upside for this year and next?
I’d drop Nelson as he’s not a keeper and it will create more cap space for future trades. Thoughts?

Worth mentioning, that thought emerged after Cozens got sent to the taxi squad

I find it hard to imagine a situation where Nelson isn't a keeper, but Mittlestadt is. Of course, we don't really know anything about your team, league, or keeper rules.

Not sure I'm liking this idea much. I agree, there is no way I'm dropping Nelson for Mittlestad. Yes, Buffalo wants Mittlestadt to succeed, but lets face it, all teams want their young players to succeed. The question is, to succeed in what role? This is where I have concerns about Mittlestad. I honestly think the aspirations of first line duties has gone by the way side. Two things have happened in that regard, Mittlestadt has clearly not seized the opportunity he has already been given and the Sabres have a roster now with a lot more talent than they did when Mittlestadt was drafted 3 years ago. I'm not at all certain that consistent 2nd line duty is a given. My opinion only, but I see Mittlestad as a middle six forward skating mostly third line minutes but able to move up the lineup if required. He has to figure out the AHL first before taking the next step.
