    Default Valimaki

What do you expect from Valimaki in the future?

Dobson is FA right now...should i add him and drop Valimaki?

Is Valimaki that much better to hold him instead of Dobson?

    Team and league in sig!

Appreciate every opinion and will reply as often as possible

Drafted Valimaki this year. He’s going to be a terrific two-way Dman who puts up points at ES and on the PP. I think of him as a poor man’s Heiskanen, or a young Petry, great skater and will be an impact player. His ppg performance in La Liiga was one for the ages - as with Puljujarvi, no guarantee that it translates immediately, but it turned heads and bodes well.

Patience is going to be key - he’s on 3rd pairing now with Nesterov and they are excellent in that role, so unlikely that changes soon. and getting zero PP time with Giordano and Andersson ahead of him. But all it takes is one injury abd he starts getting top 4 minutes and PP opportunity. Incidentally his PP strength is not a mean shot like Andersson, it’s the QBing and passing, which in the end I think will be a better fit given where NHL PPs are going.

I see him putting up 25 pts (mostly ES) this year, with decent peripherals, and then as of next year you see him start threatening 0.5ppg.

Between him and Dobson, it’s Dobson for sure in the short term, but i’m pretty confident keeper-wise Valimaki will be more valuable.

I'm not so sure...Dobson had a very good pedigree pre NHL. He's taking over PP 1 from Pulock (together at this point) and looking great. Islanders have never had a stud PP qb, Dobson looking to become that guy. I love Valimaki, but Rasmus Andersson is looking fantastic in that spit for Calgary....

My money is on Dobson since the hardest part for him is over.

Your money is on Dobson for what, short term? Long term? Both?

I agree short term, even out to 3 years, Dobson the better choice. After that I’d put money on Valimaki being more impactful. But hey it’s far from a sure bet!

Check out this sublime pass from Valimaki:

He’s starting to gain confidence, best game so far.

And he was deployed in OT with Gaudreau and Monahan, sweet.

I am extremely high on Valimaki, I think he is the better option for sure.

A terrific thread here, with videos, about the growing connection between Valimaki and Johnny Hockey Gaudreau:

I'm thinking short term here and rolling with Dobson. So much of D production is opportunity. They both have upside, but one is getting real opportunity. Give me Dobson. If in a year or three or five Valimaki ends up better then you can question it but I don't think you're making a drastically negative decision opting for help now.

Yeah for sure, short term opportunity is all Dobson. But by short term i’m thinking this year - after that it’s a toss-up.

I think Dobson is the better player but Valimaki is no slouch. Dobson over Valimaki easily enough for me, but the latter has impressed me so far.

Valimaki with another nice showing on Tuesday. Another one of his patented assists, head up and just perfectly place a little wrister-pass for an easy deflection. That plus 4 SOG and according to some big Flames commentators just a great performance.

Now has pretty decent rookie stats: 12 games, 4 assists, 18 SOG, 17 Blocks. Still no real PP time, but with the PP not working all that well so that could change soon.

I'm actually following VAlimaki and his peers closely this year, notably Byram and Romanov (who I both passed over for Valimaki in this year's draft). He's comparing favorably. Personally I think all 3 will have a major impact in their own way, and their careers will probably be equally impactful top 2-3 dmen, albeit each bringing a bit different skillsets (Romanov more physical, Valimaki more finesse and set up guy, Byram more Hughes-like attacker). Would love thoughts!

I think Byram is going to be a multi cat beast. The points aren't there, but hes physically an NHLer already and getting stronger. I know Makar has that top spot on the PP but I think Byram is going to be an ace right along side him.
