Default Ty Smith - Not enough attention?

Ty Smith has been quietly producing. He's got points in every game and currently on PP2. I suppose one concern is he's not getting a lot of ice-time for a defenseman (12-17 min). But he is a rookie and getting eased in.

Is there any chance that as the year goes on, he takes over PP1 can be a 40pt pace player towards the end of the season?

Our waiver window is just about to open, and guys like Rasmus Andersson and Chychrun are getting more attention and probably going to be picked up before my turn. Could Ty Smith be similar, or just a step below those other guys by the end of the year?

A lot is going to depend on what happens with Subban - who I’m sure they want to trade (yes, they’ll have to retain salary) and where they slot Vatanen in. A lot of moving parts in NJ - but Smith is doing a fine job of just playing really well in the role he’s given. In a keeper I’m definitely in on him,

It's still super early, but I don't feel like he was ever ignored. I would take Ty Smith on a flyer over those two others. SO much can happen in a year.. especially this year. I think there's a good chance he forces the issue this year and gets more time.

He's in a plum spot. Playing well, but this pace can't continue unless he gets onto that top PP. He's looking more comfortable and he may get a sniff. They just love PKs shot.

For now, in the spot He's in, he can put up (ideally if he keeps progressing) Sam girard type numbers. He's worth an add for sure

Smith has looked terrific so far. And Subban doesn't look like he has rebounded back to his old form. I think eventually Smith is the PP1 QB and gets the lions share of D minutes for the Devils. Probably looking at a top like 20 fantasy D man. Maybe in the realm of like McAvoy or Heiskanen? Well, obviously depends on the league and scoring and real world variables.

I don't think he will be on like Chabot level. And he definitely won't be on Quinn Hughes, Makar level. But he should still be a very good #2 or #3 D man for most fantasy teams. With the possibility of being a lower end #1 fantasy D I think.

I like Smith, and his situation in NJ, maybe not this year. He'll still have a good year, but I think once some of the log jam in front of him clears, he's definitely someone to want to roster.

Love Smith - and I think heÂ’s here to stay for good. HeÂ’s been producing despite only 17ish minutes and being paired with anchor-like Tennyson, and thatÂ’s because he makes smart plays and gets pucks through to the net with that hard wrister (totally underrated skill, Burns made a career out of it).

There is no threat to him ascending to PP1 with time. Subban is gonzo- who knows, maybe even at the trade deadline. Who else is there, Butcher? Sorry no. SmithÂ’s style that made hum such an impact D at Spokane is going to mesh perfectly with Hughes, Hischier, Holtz, (add Palmieri or other vet fwd), on that 4 fwd PP1.

Only question with Smith is when. Only other question is whether heÂ’ll add peripherals beyond SOG (which should be solid).

Plus, heÂ’s a good Lloydminster boy - I just LOVE players from Saskatchewan for some reason, so much character. Holtby, Getzlaf, Dumba, etc.

Would you take him over Grzelcyk for this year?

I just dropped Severson for Smith. So this should mean that severson finally steps it up and Smith falls off or at least thats my luck this year

Ty Smith played on PP1 last game. I picked him up in my league in which I also have PK Subban, not that I need to play either anyway. But worth monitoring since Ty Smith has a point in each game so far.....

I would indeed. I own both in two leagues. Smith has taken DeAngelo's spot for this week in my sig. keeper. He's developed great chemistry with Hughes, both on and off the ice. I also picked up Smith in my ESPN keeper and dropped Pulock. I'm all in. I do expect peaks and valleys in his first year.

Been keeping an eye on Smith for a while and he looks gooooood. Stoked to have him long term, I think he will end up being THE guy for years to come on the NJ blueline.
