Default What to do about Pionk

This guy was great last year, came from nowhere and performed really well, with solid underlying numbers unless I'm mistaken. It should have been a given that he retained his spot, but now he's seeing less ice time than Morrissey, and has lost top powerplay! I don't feel comfortable dropping Pionk, seeing as he was my 2nd defenseman and has STILL been point per game so far despite losing his place, but I don't know if I can ignore that the top PP quarterback for the team is available on the waiver wire.

    My options are as follows:

    1) Drop Pionk for Morissey - would prefer not to do this yet
    2) Drop Karlsson for Morissey - not as sure about this one, could be good but Karlsson still has a sky high ceiling
    3) Attempt to package Karlsson to upgrade a forward and then pick up Morissey - Potential, although I think trading Karlsson might be difficult, plus leaves me with 2 winnipeg D
    4) Attempt to package Pionk to upgrade a forward and then pick up Morissey - still don't love getting rid of Pionk yet
    5) Drop Bjorkstrand, pick up Morrissey - Less risky, but I don't love running 5 D.

I'd love some input from all of you.

I am in similar situation owning pionk but in a cap league and keeper so slightly different. Frustrating that he doesn’t have PP1 all of a sudden especially when I just acquired him 1 week before the season started. However like you said you have to have faith. I’d see if you can wait out another week to see how it plays out. If not then in a one year league with this shortened season I wonder if you take the plunge and make the move.

I caution this not knowing your add/drop rules and streaming of players. The other side is he is still producing so might hold off till he goes cold.

Otherwise like you said always look to trade first!

What's exactly the problem with Pionk? 3 game point streak to start the season (1a in each game) and avg'ing over 23:00 TOI. 2:46 on the PP. Sure Morrissey's had a bit more on the PP at this point but neither has a PPP yet.

I see no reason to hit the panic button here.

No need to panic. Pionk is a good player and will likely get PP1 again. Patience. Mistakes can be made early in the season by jumping to conclusions too quickly. Good luck.

Pionk is playing well. For some reason Maurice seems to want to see what Morrissey can do on the #1 PP. Meh. All teams experiment like this. Maurice also practiced with no D on the #1 PP a few times. I would not do anything drastic with Pionk. He is still getting good deployment and the cream usually rises to the top.

It's because Laine is out and Morrissey is the correct handedness to feed the PP1 with him out. Pionk will take back PP1 after Laine returns.

I see no reason to panic yet. Not when he was the clear PP leader last year, has 3 A in 3 games, and still playing big minutes. Coaches will do these things and as mentioned could just be Laine's absence.

I do think being more aggressive with FA moves/playing the hot hand in a one-year + shortened season could be a good play, but not in this case...gotta be more than 3 games.

I came to post exactly this. So as long as Laine stays, I'd hold onto Pionk. If Laine gets traded though, Morrissey should remain on PP1 (his skill set otherwise is just better suited for that role while Pionk can be trusted more with heavy minutes), the first thing I'd do after that deal is published is shopping Pionk hard....

Bump. How's everyone feeling about Morrissey & Pionk now that Laine is officially gone? Are Morrissey and Pionk's PP1 & PP2 roles now here to stay, or are both maybe sell-candidates on the news?

Morrissey did have a PPA last night, but he is still goalless and slightly under 2 sog/game. I admittedly scooped him just to stream his 5 games last week, but now I can't decide how to value you him. I am still looking at Andersson taunting me from FA.

I grabbed Morrisey off FA when I saw the ice time distribution from last night's game.

I really don't follow the Jets closely enough to know what will happen. If Maurice is a line juggler then this could just be an experiment since I presume Pionk was highly regarded in the role last year.

If Morrisey sticks on PP1 I imagine he'll be the more valuable player. But would be curious to hear from Jets fans who follow the team closer to know how they see this playing out
