    Default Synthetic ice

I've just learned to skate in the uk this past week we had cold weather and I was able to skate on our back pond and spent 10hrs over 3 days learning, and it went well, so much so Im interested to know people's thoughts on synthetic ice, can it go on a flat lawn, has anyone tried alibaba for sheets as very expensive if you go to glice etc, but it's it the same stuff?

Unfortunately I can't comment on synthetic ice, but I wanted to pop in to say congrats on learning to skate! Not easy to learn new things later in life. I tried learning guitar and learning to swim as an adult but failed miserably at both.

I have a friend who used to sell synthetic ice for those who wanted to skate in the summer when our rinks were shut down. He got out of the business a few years ago. It's becoming less popular mainly because a lot of rinks have adjusted to year round ice but I do know of a couple who still have it. From what I understand, it's just like skating on real ice but it does dull your skates quicker. You'll need to get your blades sharpened more often. Other than that, it's pretty similar to actual ice when you're skating on it.

I've noticed that gliding on it is a bit different. But if you can afford it I don't think it's a massive issue. Go ahead. It's pretty freaking close to ice.

Honestly if I had the space I'd love to have it. I know people who have it in their basement for their teenager and it's pretty cool. But I wish our family cottage had more flat ground, I think it would be a sick thing to have at a cottage.

Roller blades aren't bad either. Not a perfect replication of ice, but still fun.
