Some interesting bits of news coming out of the Florida camp - what do you guys think will happen with Yandle this year?

First that he's no longer PP1, then that he's 3rd pairing, then that he's skating with the reserves? Don't see any reason for the changes, so I'm wondering if people think they'll last or have some other insight.

Yandle is a key veteran with a skillset that no one else has on the team. Q wants to see what the rest of his team can do, because he knows what Yandle can do. I have no doubt he will be the top PP option on the team. The team's scoring is gonna take a huge hit on the PP without Hoffman and Dadonov though.

The news of him off PP1 has been around for over a week. Definitely seems that Ekblad is going to get the chance at running things.

Is it really that big of news that Yandle is no longer being on the top line? Yandle is a RHD right? Ekblad, Stralman, Gudas, and now Noah Juulsen are the teams RHD.

Is Yandle practicing on the left side? Or is he still on the right side?

I highly doubt Yandle is practicing on the 2nd team to not be on the NHL roster with just his salary and ability.

Unless Yandle came into camp very, very out of shape... he's still going to get usage.
At very minimum, he'll play PP2.

FLA still needs to compete - and even if Yandle isn't in their long-term plans, they still need to trade him as an asset.
They can't afford to not use him. He'll be fine, but it is possible he patrols PP2 instead of PP1.

I think mostly, Q knows its a shorter camp and wants a long-look at the younger D in tough situations.

If you read the news they are suggesting Yandle is likely out of favour with the coaches. Apparently due to "poor decisions" and also likely due to fact he is slightly slower. I see him in the mix but depending on how the year for Florida goes his usage my see a hit this year as they tool up for the future. It is pre-season though - so would wait and see what happens once the regular season starts prior to making any moves. As others have stated it could also be Quenneville having a look at what the other D are able to do in different situations.

Seravalli mentions Yandle's 866 iron man game streak dating back 11 calendar years is probably coming to an end. What a way for it to end. Geez..

Brutal. Is he actually that bad defensively? So bad that he's unplayable? Was he always this bad or was this a recent development?

He's got a couple more years on his deal as well. Best case scenario he gets traded for a different bad contract...

Pretty happy I traded for Ekblad a couple of days ago. I foresee a breakout coming. A large addition to his PP points would upgrade his multi-cat status to elite.

Realize that last year, the Panthers had a 4th line that was the "Helicopter Line" - one center, no wings, by using two D as the wings on the 4th line. A lot of this seems to be the coach, I was very happy the Flyers didn't go get Quenneville when they fired Hakstol.

That was a good move. This started to happen last year, which is when I got Ekblad in the 2 leagues I was in.

That was a good move. This started to happen last year, which is when I got Ekblad in the 2 leagues I was in.

I traded for Ekblad about a month ago or so. It helps soften the blow that Yandle will be almost unplayable unless things change. Got Ekblad for Holtby and Giordano lol
