That won't be much of a fight... he's already better than either. At some point = only a matter of time. Austin Matthews was going to be brought along slowly as well.

I think based on the last couple of drafts and how top prospects have faired - Hischier, Svechnikov, Hughes - people are shying away from holding real expectations of Lafreniere. But let's keep in mind that Lafreniere is more polished & more physically ready than any of those players were.

it won't take long for NYR to bump him up the line up.

yeah i dont buy that....Comtois is 22 now...and was decent in limited action at NHL level last year...he can easily be better than half of that roster and he is ready.

Zegras is also ready but i can see why they want to give him some AHL action ...either way i do think they are trying to tank...

We often see transactions right before the start of the year that are 'paper' transactions for a variety of reasons, whether it's cap related or so they can move someone to LTIR. what-have-you.

If Comtois or whoever isn't back up with the club in 2-4 days.. then get concerned. Until then it's more likely a paper move.

Quite so. The Habs have a 5 player taxi squad in order to be able to move waiver-exempt players on and off daily to build cap space.

I bet Kaprizov with a +400. I would think Shesterkin actually gets it. But I think Kap is close.

I like Kaprizov over Shesterkin. I think Georgiev steals too many games.

I like Kaprizov too but I don't think Georgiev is stealing as many games from Igor as people think. I'm obviously invested in Prince Igor but I think he has the makings of a goalie that can handle the volume. Georgiev isn't a bad goaltender at all, but Shesterkin is on another level IMO.

    Unfortunately, not worth much, IMO.
I hate to say it... but a lot of team beat writers this year... don't seem to "ooze hockey" like I'm used to.
They cover their team, they know their team, but then they don't seem to have a vibe on other team situations.
Their is some pretty raw hockey coverage on some teams. I'll read it, but it isn't suggestive of a hockey person.
(Thanks god that the PHI guy, Charlie O'Connor, is phenomenal. Guy absolutely knows his stuff.)

NYR is set up with a top 6F, that likely doesn't include Laf.
And I really don't see Laf pushing his way onto a stacked NYR PP1.
If he doesn't play top 6, and if he isn't PP1... then he's got no chance at Calder.

Kaprizov is a LOCK for PP1 and top 6 minutes. L-O-C-K.

    But... I've been wrong before.

You know what, I have to agree. For someone whose entire job is to cover hockey, they should have full out excellent reads on their team as well as every team in the league. Every detail, every bit of news. I feel like I'm more plugged in than them sometimes and I have a full-time job and some...

I yearn for way more in-depth coverage from the media... Seems like laziness.
