[Before I start, some math... the average game yields 2.2pts, since 1/5 is a OTL. That's 1.1pts per team, which makes 61.6pts the "average" score for a 56gp season]
Divisions of 8 teams (3 of em) should have a combined total of: 492.8pts
Division of 7 teams (North) should have a combined total of: 431.2pts

Let's see what we get:
North: 435.5pts (about 4pts high... close)
East: 505pts (13pts over... too high for some teams, thusly)
Central: 499pts (6.2pts over... closer)
West: 494pts (1.2pts over... closer)
*These totals are not surprising since most fans ("homers") are apt to bet the OVER on their favourite teams.
People are used to the Eastern teams being "good"... but there's only so much "good" to go around.


OVERS:
74.5 Colorado. Just super strong in a weak divison.
69.5 Toronto. I have faith
67.5 Philly. It's a tough division... but Philly is loaded.
58.5 Arizona. Goaltending/D is enough to beat ANA/LA/SJ pretty consistently, IMO


UNDERS:
75.5 Tampa Bay. It's just a lot of points and solid competition gunning for the champs.
71.5 Boston. I have little faith in the 30+ crowd.
70.5 Carolina. Just too high for me.
67.5 Dallas. Not enough offense
64.5 NYI. The Barzal thing...
62.5 Florida. Too many moving parts.

I'd take the over on them...

I wouldn't. That would be an 13 point pace increase from last year. While they are better, last year they were in a division with Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida and of course got to beat up on the Habs.

If you take away their random 4 wins vs Montreal....they would have had a 25.9 point pace in a 56 game season.

I think I may have just found an exercise to work on tomorrow. Find out the team's pace last year and see how it compares to the projected this year. I remember after their "successful" offseason last year the Devils were projected for like 20 more points.....which is something that is just incredibly hard to accomplish.
