Great draft fellas! I can’t count the number of times someone got snatched right out from under me. You would think after 10 years of it happening, I would be used to it by now

EDIT: For this season, my team will be called Cult of Tkachuky

I only really started working on my draft list in the week leading up to draft day. I didn’t really have an overall draft strategy, thinking that being an old dog at these drafts, I’ll adjust on the fly. I knew I had the eighth overall pick, so I wasn’t too sure who was going to fall to me. Let's get to the picks:

Round 1 – LW-Brady Tkachuk OTT – Maybe a little early, but the guy will contribute in so many categories and there is a scarcity of penalty minutes. Considered Crosby, who was taken with the next pick

Round 2 – D-John Carlson WSH – Almost took a goalie (Hart, Price) and in hindsight, probably should have, but believe Carlson has another great year in him

Round 3 – LW/RW-Matthew Tkachuk CGY – Had to have the bookend brother. Oh yeah, he was also the top RW on my list. Again, multi-cat, especially hits and penalty minutes

Round 4 – G-Igor Shesterkin NYR – Probably should have taken a goalie earlier, but was lucky that the Rangers stud was available

Round 5 – C-Mark Scheifele WPG – Was worried about face-off wins and Scheifele is one of my favourite players, win-win. Was secretly hoping Ryan O’Reilly would drop to me for those massive FOW. Would have taken Darcy Kuemper, but he went with the pick just before mine

Round 6 – C/LW-Jamie Benn DAL – Got scooped on a goalie again, wanted Bobrovsky and would have taken either Makar or Letang had they made it to my pick. Considered Timo Meier, glad to see him go with the next pick

Round 7 – G-Elvis Merzlikins CBJ – Was hoping Khudobin or Kopitar would fall to this pick, but nope. Here’s hoping Elvis gets more than a 50/50 split this year

Round 8 – D-Jacob Trouba NYR – Had Teravainen lined up and ready to select, but he was snagged with the pick right in front of mine (sensing a theme here). Settled for my second D who will give me penalty minutes, lots of hits and blocked shots

Round 9 – D-Ryan Pulock NYI – Likely would have taken Dubois, but again, he was taken right before my pick. Happy to add Pulock, who will contribute in multiple categories, especially blocked shots. Thinking with Toews out of the way, Pulock might take it up a notch with some bonus PPP

Round 10 – G-Mikko Koskinen EDM – He was just sitting there. A starting goalie on what should be a decent team says this Oilers fan

Round 11 – C-Brock Nelson NYI – Was looking at Domi, Boeser, Quinn Hughes, Shea Theodore or Sergachev, but they all came off the board pretty much in that order earlier in the round. Nelson is a bit under-rated, scored at a 65 point pace last year and had some nice face-off wins

Round 12 – C-Evgeny Kuznetsov WSH – Couldn’t pass up the name value here

Round 13 – LW/RW-Anthony Mantha DET – Scored at a 72 point pace last season and has sneaky penalty minute and hit numbers

Round 14 – RW-Jakub Voracek PHI – Wanted Dumba, but he went at the end of round 13. Top line player who will contribute points and PPP. Thought about taking Ryan Ellis, who went the pick after mine

Round 15 – C/LW – Barclay Goodrow TB – Huge combination of penalty minutes, hits and face-off wins from the wing made this an easy pick for me

Round 16 – LW/RW-Tyler Bertuzzi DET – Considered Kubalik, but settled on Bertuzzi thinking that Chicago has lost some of its offensive swagger, while Detroit is heading in the right direction

Round 17 – D-Ryan Suter MIN – Took my fourth D. Should provide points, blocked shots and PPP on an improved Wild PP

Round 18 – LW-Alexis Lafreniere NYR – I have a policy of not taking rookies in these one year drafts. They are a big unknown, but with this year’s top pick sitting there, I thought I’d roll the dice

Round 19 – D-Filip Hronek DET – Another hopeful pick who will give me some points, a few penalty minutes, hits and maybe some extra PPP

Round 20 – D-Nikita Zadorov CHI – Another peripheral monster in penalty minutes and hits, he rounds out my top six D

Round 21 – D-Alex Goligoski ARZ – Provides something you absolutely need from your D, blocked shots, who can score 30 points, 10 PPP and nearly 100 hits

Round 22 – C/LW-Jonathan Drouin MTL – Filling out the bench now with talent, hoping for a bounce back season. Hearing good things from training camp

Round 23 – D-Devon Toews COL – I was a little down when he changed teams, but this could help his even strength numbers on the high flying Avs

Round 24 – RW-Wayne Simmonds TOR – Penalty minutes and hits, plus he should be in the mix for some PPTOI

Round 25 – C-Joe Thornton TOR – Throwing darts, hoping he sticks with the top line and eventually gets a wing designation, so I can get more FOW from the wing

Round 26 – LW/RW-Andreas Athanasiou LA – Only one season removed from a 30 goal, 54 point campaign. Fresh start, potential to rebound

Round 27 – LW/RW-Tyler Ennis EDM – Another dart, hoping for him to stick with one of the top two lines. If it doesn’t work out, he’s an easy drop

Overall, I’m relatively happy with my draft, but missed a few opportunities to pick up a fourth goalie. I should be around the top for penalty minutes and hits and hope that I don’t lag behind in the skilled categories. Time will tell. Best of luck to everyone and hope for as many COVID-free rosters as possible

Another exciting draft fellas. I can't count how many times I watched with hope as the player(s) I had my eyes on got snatched out from under me just before my pick. Here's a quick recap (hoping the review will also act as my draft prep for the Dobber Pro draft in a couple hours.

    1. (3) Nathan MacKinnon (Col - C)
Was kind of hoping to snag Draisatl here but he went #1. Contemplated going with Vasilevsky here (who went with the next pick) but ultimately couldn't pass up Mack who has a good chance at being the top producing player in this format when it's all said and done.

    2. (24) Victor Hedman (TB - D)
I was surprised D didn't start going off the board sooner and I had Carlson/Hedman ranked at the top of my list. I was thinking about a goalie here but figured I could let it slide til Round 3.

    3. (29) Mika Zibanejad (NYR - C)
The last position I wanted to draft after getting Mack was another center but I couldn't pass Zibby up. If he stays healthy, he could provide first round value. Figured I could reach for some top multicat talent in round 4 in Evander Kane or Tom Wilson but they both went at the end of this round dashing those hopes.

    4. (50) Tristan Jarry (Pit - G)
After watching a lot of goalies go during the last couple rounds, I figure I bet get in on the action even though there's some primo LW talent in Patches/Landeskog/Hall left and inexplicably Elias Petterson remains on the board.

    5. (55) Gabriel Landeskog (Col - C,LW)
Patches went the pick before. I really wanted to draft EP here but with 2 Cs drafted already I had to start getting some wingers and wanted someone who could contribute across the board. Hall/Petterson went with the next two picks so I guess we were all thinking along the same lines.

    6. (76) Anton Khudobin (Dal - G)
I watch as guys target goalies, d-men and FOWs from the wing drooling over the prospect that I'm going to land my boy Timo Meier. Sadly he gets snagged 4 picks ahead of me and I scramble to snag a second goalie. I grab Khudobin as he should be solid on a strong Dallas team until Bishop comes back. I figure I'll be able to land Bishop at a discount later anyway.

    7. (81) Erik Karlsson (SJ - D)
I figure the long layoff should benefit Karlsson as he is likely to be the healthiest he has been in years.

    8. (102) Thatcher Demko (Van - G)
Watched a lot of goalies come off the board since my last pick and was slightly surprised to see Demko still around as I had him slightly ahead of Korpisalo/Halak/Varlamov who all went before him. Goalies are a bit of a crapshoot this year but I definitely want some quantity so I'm happy to take him for G3 at this point.

    9. (107) Anders Lee (NYI - LW)
Couldn't pass up the aging power forward at this point. He is a consistently underrated talent in all leagues. Not a sexy pick, but I think he provides good value outside of the top 100

    10. (128) John Klingberg (Dal - D)
Klingberg has always been a personal favorite and seems to be falling a fair amount in drafts this year. Even with the emergence of Heiskanen in Dallas, I think Kling provides a top offensive D option.

This round saw some good value picks go in the D department with Doughty, Petry, Mcavoy, Chabot. I also like the goalie picks. Even though it seems early for Murray, Dubnyk, Koskinen I think they could all end up being sneaky good picks.

    11. (133) Brock Boeser (Van - RW)
I couldn't believe Boeser had made it this far. It was tough to decide between him or the next level multi-cat guys like Kreider or Palmieri or even my breakout player/team namesake from last year in Cirelli. But ultimately couldn't pass up the offensive talent of Brock Boeser. I just hoped that one of the others would fall to my next pick.

    12. (154) Alexander Radulov (Dal - LW,RW)
Of course none of the others fell, but I'll take Radulov as a decent consolation prize.

    13. (159) Tyler Seguin (Dal - C,RW)
Didn't have Seguin on my radar at all, but scrolled past him while others were making their picks. There's some pretty solid value left on the board by making this pick, but I didn't think he would make it back around to my next picks. I'm also very confident in my ability to mine leftover talent post-draft, so I like to snag a guy or two for the IR. In hindsight, I kind of wish I would have went with Ehlers as he went with the next pick. But Seguin could provide some great value if I get half a season or more out of him.

    14. (180) Paul Stastny (Wpg - C)
Stastny was really the last C left that I felt had some solid upside and would contribute to the FWs that you want from a pure C slot. Was pretty happy that he fell to me here.

    15. (185) Ben Bishop (Dal - G)
I was leaning towards Ryan Graves or Josh Anderson here but with goalies getting pretty scarce, I figured I'd snag Bishop for his eventual return. This may have been a little early, but I have my doubts he would have lasted until my next pick. Now, just need to make sure I get whoever is backing up Khudobin for now *checks depth chart*. Adds Jake Oettinger to queue to snag in last couple rounds.

    16. (206) Josh Anderson (Mon - RW)
I was a little surprised to see Anderson drop this far as I think he will be given every opportunity to succeed in Montreal. But their forward group is crowded. I still think he has a better chance to emerge than many of the others though.

    17. (211) Keith Yandle (Fla - D)
I have a lot of great D still left in my queue and decide Yandle is the least likely to make it back around to my next pick. Surely one of Grzlyck, Spurgeon, Suter or Schmidt will still be there... right... right guys?

    18. (232) Jason Zucker (Pit - LW,RW)
All those D-men and a few others go off the board in the meantime so I decide to focus on a couple of great value names I'm surprised haven't went yet. The Zucker pick elicits some groans from the chat so I know I've done a good job on this one.

    19. (237) Jake DeBrusk (Bos - LW,RW)
Another name that I'm happy to see still available especially since I haven't been able to draft any Bruins yet. Typically I feel that picks in this range of the draft can go a long way to a successful season and the Zucker/Debrusk combo has me feeling pretty good. They would also provide me with inspiration for my team name later as well.

    20. (258) T.J. Brodie (Tor - D)
Cernak went 2 picks before this which was who I was targeting, but the Leafs big offseason acquisition should provide some decent stats in a year that will be tough to hit games player limits at certain positions.

    21. (263) Jesse Puljujarvi (Edm - RW)
    22. (284) Alex Tuch (VGK - LW,RW)
    23. (289) Samuel Girard (Col - D)
    24. (310) Alexander Wennberg (Fla - C,LW)
    25. (315) Brandon Carlo (Bos - D)

I was just going for value and upside with these picks. Not much point in playing it safe here. Any of these guys could be waiver fodder 2 weeks in or could be looked on as the steals that help me land my first RHRS after 10 years in the league. I'm pretty proud of the Wennberg pick as I think he could get back to his productive form now that he's out of Columbus and away from Torts.

As I'm patting myself on the back for landing the Bruins top pairing D in Carlo this late, I watch Jake Oettinger (Dallas G) go before the picks circle back to me. Shit! Okay, no worries, Vanecek in Washington has the inside track to the backup job. I'll snag him... Shit again! He goes too. So I end up with:

    26. (336) Ryan Miller (Anh - G)
Honestly, he's just there to help with SVs category. At least he should get a few starts for me.

    27. (341) Josh Manson (Anh - D)
Manson always seems to end up on my teams. Should help provide some solid peripherals anyway.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with my team and think I should be fairly competitive. Who knows with this group though and with COVID playing a complicating factor. Bring on the season!

    Zucker&Jake vs Evil is ready!
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

2021 Team Name Update: The s-Purge(thanks to Spurgeon coming aboard)

Was late getting prepped for the draftthis year and never did solidify a full strategy. Instead, tried tostick to a couple of “priorities” and go with what fell to me (avery dangerous plan in this league).

This is the BEST draft I get to be apart of every single year. Unbelievably shrewd GM's with a widevariety of drafting strategies. SO. MUCH. FUN. (and so tough)

    STRATEGY:
Forwards: Scoring scoring scoring.Wanted as many top point-getters as I could land early, feeling likeif covid took out a star, I'd have a really tough time replacingthose scoring cats on the wire. The decision to stick with 65 GP/slotmeans we've got an additional 36 games at each position to cover, sodepth has added importance in my eyes this year.

Defense: Full flip from my usual scriptof solidifying D early. Instead, found some low-ranked guys I waskeen on so was willing to wait on D quite a bit.

Goalies: Just didn't have a plan here.Had no idea how this group was going to approach goalies this year,as with our 65 GP per slot cap and dense sched I'm not sure anyonecan max out. Told myself to prioritize ratios, but only if there wasa run on Gs early, or else wait til later than usual.

FYI like Comish, I basically had guyssnagged every single round in front of me, so won't list them all.Just know there were maybe 3-4 rounds where the guy I “most”wanted fell to me.

    PICKS:
Round 1 – C – Crosby – He was ina group of about 5 guys I figured might be there (and basically allwent right around me)

Round 2 – C – Aho – He was the“other” in the 5 who didn't go. So high on CAR waxing theirdivision this year.

Round 3 – L/R – Laine – Wasn't mytop pick for sniper but I'm comfortable landing him here.

Round 4 – C – Point – Lovegetting him (fits strategy) but don't love having 3 Cs in my first 4picks.

Round 5 – G – Sorokin – Turns outthe league was high on drafting goalies early, so I had to jump inhere or put myself in a brutal hole. I'm a believer that he's forreal and will not only post fantastic “Trotz-Korn” ratios butwill wind up stealing the NYI net by the end of the year.

Round 6 – G – Bobrovsky – Ipanicked lol. My queue got decimated in the 8 picks between mine andas the pick timer wound down, I convinced myself that I was draftingBob of 4 years ago.

Round 7 – D – Provorov – LatestI've waited to draft a D in this league (ever) and happy to get hisacross-the-board coverage here.

    Round 8 – L/R – Teravainen – Backto the CAR & point-getter well.

Round 9 – L/R – Hoffman – Notbad, but not great. Was unsure I'd get the G/SOG guys I wanted laterso pulled the trigger (maybe a bit earlier than I should have).

Round 10 – G – Dubnyk – About 4rounds earlier than I wanted to go – but that's how the draft wasplaying out. Feel like SJ is in for rebound in their division (andquite bummed I missed out my targeted SJ skater picks) and hopingDubie is up for it.

Round 11 – D – Werenski – Morethan happy landing Zach here. Between him and Provo, hoping for asneaky goal-boost from my back-end

Round 12 – L/R – Fiala – Debatedhard between him and Kaprizov here but went with the more knownquantity. I'm not as down on Minny as others seem to be.

Round 13 – L/R – Bjorkstrand –Super thrilled to land OB here. Think he was ranked too low on Yahooand feeling confident he'll return value here.

Round 14 – C – K.Hayes – Jumpedtoo early for him, but because I'd been ignoring C for a while, wasfeeling a bit pressured to lock up my starting 4. Think there mightbe some upside if he sticks with Giroux and can find consistent PPminutes.

Round 15 – D – P.K.Subban –Wanted him as my 6th D as in prior years he was a sneakysource of PIMs along with his scoring. Obviously need scoring toreturn at least a bit (since he's my 3rd D now) but if hecan deliver even an “average” points year, feeling like hisperipherals will return value.

Round 16 – C/L – Hintz – A guy Iwas targeting this season. FOW from the wing and should seeconsistent top-six minutes.

Round 17 – D – Spurgeon – Happyto snag him here and hoping the captaincy doesn't mess with his solidfloor output-wise. Typically get massacred in BLKs so he was a guy Ihad in mind this year.

Round 18 – C/L – J.Hughes –Expect progression this year, and while I feel like I've lived up tomy “get scoring” priority... also am really starting to feel likeI'm massively missing HITs in my lineup.

Round 19 – G – Quick – Saw astarter left and knowing LA has a strong off-night sched, decided tocommit. Didn't realize Driedger was still available (to handcuff Bob)and when he went a few picks later it was time to re-fill the wineglass.

Round 20 – C/L – Stephenson –Vegas C1 to start the year (and FOW from the W) so hoping for adecent little run (before he's eventually usurped by C.Glass... who Iplan to grab later anyways)

Round 21 – L/R – K.Kapanen –Worth the risk considering I have Sid. Don't expect huge numbers, butif he remembers to “skate fast and give puck to Crosby” I'd bethrilled with a career year of non-primary assists.

Round 22 – D – Shattenkirk –Clearly needing D still and while I don't particularly care for theANA PP, I do like their off-night sched. Hoping that an increase inmins will help bump numbers across-the-board.

Round 23 – D – M.Lehtonen – Wortha swing here, as I still needed D and I think he'll be running PP2. Idon't expect TOR to keep the units separated all year (with JT &Nyl on PP2) – but if they do, he could be a nice surprise.

Round 24 – C/R – Bjugstad – CodyGlass all cued to go and... right before me. Thanks Temek. Will rollthe dice on Bjug staying healthy and in the top-six for as long as hecan.

Round 25 – G – Oettinger – Justhappened to catch my eye as I was trying to find some late gems. Ifthey don't ride Khudobin hard until Bish gets back, Jake couldprovide some Ws and decent ratios when (if) he sees the net.

Round 26 – D – Romanov – We're inthe added (covid) bench rounds now and while there are a fewperipheral-heavy D still available (my original plan), I figuredafter his reviews in camp, and current PP2 role on a team that Ithink will have 3 lines score evenly... he's a decent early-seasongamble.

Round 27 – D – J.Lauzon – Inearly took Lauzon 5 rounds ago as I love his role to open the yearand he caught my eye last year as a potential peripheral-heavy guy ona good team.

SUMMARY: Fairly happy with myteam and feel like I executed my (loose) strategy well. I'm clearlygoing to be in need of addressing a few cats (HIT in particular) buthoping with some shrewd wire moves and trades I can slowly remedythat over the season.

Default Re: 2020/21 Rocky Horror Roto Show

Uzumaata (Based on Japenese film: Uzumaki)

    Strategy:
First & foremost, Yahoo! roto leagues are about goalies.
For those "out of the loop", Yahoo! somehow couldn't manage to decrease their maxGP settings to 65.
This is weird, but it means people need about 3-teams worth of goalies to hit. That's tough.
    There's some math.

*In truth, if I wanted to win this pool... I wouldn't have divulged this... but I do really like playing for the fun... and I like this group of GMs... so I did... and many of them got it... and most of them 10/13, still won't hit 130gp.*
*I should... barring injuries... and that should get me a top 5 finish if I draft goalies heavily enough, and I did.*

Everything else settles in on skater-value when it's available.
But goalies... goalies trump all in 65gp Roto this year.

    Here we go:
    1. (6) Auston Matthews (Tor - C)
Got lucky. I had Matthews as my #5 guy, behind the default top 4 skaters: Draisaitl (FOW from W), MacKinnon, McDavid, Ovechkin. I thought for sure I'd miss him... but Lil Propp drafted Vasilevskiy at #4. So I got my #5!

    2. (21) Carter Hart (Phi - G)
This is a homer pick as a Flyer fan... but also, there's only likely about 5 "volume" starters in the NHL - incl. Vas, Helle, Hart, Binnington, Markstrom. I think EVERYBODY else is looking at less than 75% of starts. PHI is in a heavily competitive division and Hart >> Elliott, so PHI should likely lean on him for 3 in 4 starts. With the 130gp issue, these goalies have to be UP-WEIGHTED... and sure enough, even Binnington was gone by my round 3 pick.

    3. (32) David Pastrnak (Bos - RW)
In past years, I've lost out on truly competing from lack of offense, especially goals/SOG. I don't mind Pastrnak's injury - all signs indicate that he is recovering well. I'm hoping he's back after missing about 11games. Two home games with BUF on Feb6/8 is where predict I get his services back.

    4. (47) Patrice Bergeron (Bos - C)
    P7 loves Patrice Bergeron.

    5. (58) Petr Mrazek (Car - G)
I don't love this pick... but I had Elias Pettersson queued up and Rick took him one pick before me. I could afford to target the FOW-lacking EP40 after my Bergeron draft... but he was gone. CAR should be a very good team... and I simply knew that I needed to get Reimer once the back-ups started moving. Sticky note on screen, draft on.

    6. (73) Pavel Francouz (Col - G)
Like Mrazek, I don't love taking a 40% volume starter here... but I had to. I refuse to let Ma (who drafted Grubauer 1.5 rounds previous, and on turn) get 56gp starts from the COL duo. Sometimes part of winning leagues is defensive-drafting... and while it can hurt an individual team to do it... I consider it a "league-wide" responsibility to form a peloton to chase down ROTO leaders.

    7. (84) Cam Talbot (Min - G)
Talbot is considered by many (incl. Dom, from theAthletic) to be the only late-draft available "sleeper/volume" goalie. This one worries me a bit... it's my MAKE-OR-BREAK pick. I'm only going to get to my 130gp if Talbot gets me 35 starts (60%). With 4 starters, at this point I'm only needing to pair up two back-ups to solidify 112gp, via 2x56gp. This is key... and I could focus solely to skater now and not overdraft goalies - which is what everybody else would start doing soon.

    8. (99) Ryan Strome (NYR - C,RW)
For those of you who haven't had to do it... the hardest thing in all of Fantasy Hockey is to draft adjacent to Lord-of-the-Rings (Pete). He's solid, keen. THREE TIMES he snagged the player I was targeting right in front of me. This was the first time, where I wanted Bo Horvat... and I just felt it. I was right. He took Horvat. In this case, it was OK... because I do think Ryan Strome is a year-long consensus top two C for NYR.

    9. (110) Mathew Barzal (NYI - C)
Speaking of fantastic picks, with my FOW set-in, I could be that guy who takes one of the three C-only FOW-sheep. McDavid is one. EP40 is another. And so is Barzal. It hurts to not get FOW from a center... but Barzal at 110 is criminal. Dude is insane. And I have plenty of G/SOG from previous guys, so Barzal is going to really help me A, PPP. After seeing him destroy the Flyers in the playoffs last year, how do I not think he doesn't have another gear!

    10. (125) Charlie McAvoy (Bos - D)
I love McAvoy. I think this is another steal of a pick here. He does HIT/BLK to go with everything else. If he was on PP1, he should be a top 60 pick... and maybe that scared some people off. But he should be a top 100 player.

    11. (136) Mikhail Sergachev (TB - D)
As soon as I thought "Well... if only McAvoy was PP1... how his value would SKYROCKET...", the other NHL guy on a major +/- team that fits that bill is Serg. Part of the greatness of the forums is discussion... and playoff discussion - because it is statistics and usage that doesn't translate to Yahoo stats/ranks. Sergachev (former Spitfire!) was used with similar PP1 TOI as Hedman in the playoffs - my thanks to whoever was in that thread. And Serg does HIT/BLK... and he's young... and ready to pop. This is going to be an excellent pick.

    12. (151) Alexander Edler (Van - D)
So... Kevin Fiala (MIN)... a great pick, goes at 148... and I knew it, ya just put that "MIN" on the screen and the keeners are reminded of Kaprizov. Myself included, though Kaprizov was already #1 on my queue from after the Serg pick. I can NOT explain how excited I was to pick Kaprizov and add him to Matthews/Pastrnak. SO EXCITED. I wanted this pick more than anything... and effin LOTR takes Kaprizov one pick in front of me. I jested with the guys that I wouldn't curse this draft... but... man.... man... Kaprizov is the real deal. If LOTR wins the pool, he wins it here, by whatever the smallest increment is, because that's ONE, one pick... and he would've been mine. I was SO EXCITED for Kaprizov that I couldn't even focus on researching and had NO QUEUE. I had a few scratch "value players" that I always prepare on a small sticky in case I get flustered. Edler... meh, he's always good for HIT,BLK... and should be a heavy +/- on an emerging VAN team. I'll take it... but... it's not Kaprizov!

    13. (162) Joe Pavelski (Dal - C,RW)
    P7 loves Pavelski

    14. (177) James Reimer (Car - G)
Getting a lock 56gp is important. Period. Got it. Though, in truth... I only remembered to do this when Brian effin Elliott was taken at 172. No 56gp from PHI... but CAR should actually have better win% and be 2nd in their division. So, overall, this is a good play given my Mrazek invesement.

    15. (188) Robert Thomas (StL - C,RW)
    P7 loves Robert Thomas.

    16. (203) Viktor Arvidsson (Nsh - LW,RW)
    He's line 1, he's PP1... he's a volume SOG guy... and he's healthy!. Round 16 - thank YOU.

    17. (214) Dylan Strome (Chi - C,RW)
He played OHL with DeCat, so there's minutes there. I'll probably have to eat a -20... but I think I can offset that with my good-team players.

    18. (229) Nick Bonino (Min - C)
Bonino found himself in a C1/C2 position with the Wild. That's crazy. Dude has OK skills and good FOW. MIN will lean on him for FOW, he could get 18min/GP TOI.
This is a little bit like Ryan Strome... in that MIN is stocked with four good wingers, and Bonino gets those token points and probably a PLUS. Great pick here.

    19. (240) Nick Foligno (Cls - LW,RW)
I think NickFo is still riding PP1. He just gives everything. Solid across the board player and I hadn't at ALL targeted HIT/PIM yet. So... now.

    20. (255) Olli Maatta (LA - D)
One team website that I actually visit daily is LAKingsInsider. I like the guy that does that coverage and LA is an interesting team with all their prospects.
From everything I've read, LA & Doughty are massively happy with how well Maataa has paired with Doughty. That's a LOT of TOI... and hopefully they can take care of their +/-.
Maatta should be a HIT/BLK beast with minutes - and I think he pairs with Doughty all year.

    21. (266) Zach Parise (Min - LW)
    *See Bonino, Kaprizov info above.

    22. (281) Brayden McNabb (VGK - D)
You know who Brayden McNabb's D-partner is... Alex Pietrangelo. So, that.

    23. (292) Denis Gurianov (Dal - LW,RW)
Speaking of dudes to be leaned on... DAL needs goals, he'll be shooting... and he's got a great shot.

    24. (307) Andrew Shaw (Chi - C,RW)
I'll drop Shaw to waivers eventually... but to start the season he's actually playing PP1 and C2.

    25. (318) Laurent Brossoit (Wpg - G)
I read an article that Brossoit has actually been fantastic at camp. Even Hellebuyck needs breaks. Goalies were almost run dry by this point.

    26. (333) Pavel Zacha (NJ - C,LW)
Could take some FOW, just found out NJ signed Bratt, so this hurts his opp for PP time. Might be a quick drop.

    27. (344) Sean Walker (LA - D)
Meh - back to FA soon enough, but IR for now.

    Self-Draft Grade: A. I did well.
Predicted Finish: 3rd. I did well.

Dig Two Graves - Too bad I did not draft Jumbo Joe...

    Round 1 – Hellebucyk –
Every year I think that I can get goalie stats later in the draft… and then always have trouble pulling the trigger on a goalie cause there are always better skaters available. Well not this year, this is the year I am going to get a goalie… It was between Helly and Hart… I didn’t want to make the homer pick and let last years stats win me over. Could prove costly right off the bat! But Hey, at least I got a goalie before the middle of the draft!

Round 2 – Panarin – Was planning on taking one of B. Tkachuk, Guentzel or Svechnikov here to get some hits coverage early, cause I usually lack hits… but all three of them were gone and Panarin was still available.

Round 3 – Evander Kane – After selecting Panarin, I knew I needed to follow it up with someone who covered the peripheral categories but didn’t forfeit too much in points. It was Kane or Wilson here… I went with the LW.

Round 4 – Claude Giroux – FOW from the LW slot…and Yahoo will likely give him RW eligibility after a couple games… Yes Please.

Round 5- Johnny Gaudreau – Bounce back to a point per game player in the high-scoring North Division… ‘Here’s Johnny’

Round 6 – Brayden Schenn – Similar to picking E. Kane after Panarin… I needed hits after selecting Johnny Hockey…. So I went with my Brandon Wheat King all-time fave. And got some hits and FOW from the RW slot.

    After 6 – 1 Goalie, 4LW eligible, 2RW eligible, 2C eligible

Round 7 – F. Forsberg – I think its bounce back season here for all Nashville forwards and Forsberg gets a decent amount of cross category coverage.

Round 8 – Gallagher – Regret this pick… always regret picking Canadiens…. But this is what I was thinking… I need Hits and SOGs and was thinking about how high scoring the Canadian division will be. I also believe the Canadian division will be the division least effected by COVID because of Canada’s restrictions and the lower population.

Round 9 – Backstrom – I have FOW from the wings… but no true centres on my squad yet. Debated the two Washington guys and went with Backstrom.

Round 10 – Matt Murray – With my first round pick I said I didn’t want to be chasing goalies all draft… every round I felt like the value wasn’t there. Murray is out to prove Pittsburgh wrong… and Ottawa is going to be better than people hope. I know I have said the North is going to be high-scoring… but I needed another starter. And I don’t want a New Jersey starter.

After 10 – 2 Goalies (which I usually am lucky to have 1 by this time in this draft) 5LW eligible, 3RW eligible, 3C eligible - No D yet… yikes… or all part of the plan.

Round 11 – W. Karlsson – Someone, somewhere said to boost the value of VEG and COL players cause the bottom teams in their division are going to give up a lot…and I will add some more from these guys throughout the rest of the draft

Round 12 – Alex DeBrincat – Went for some more points here. I think the trio of Strome, Debrincat and Kane could be a mass producing line this year.

Round 13 – Parayko - I am good with my #1 D not being a sexy pick if I get the coverage that Parayko provides in round 13. It was part of my strategy to not pick a D in the first 10 rounds… that carried over until round 13.

Round 14 – B. Elliot – Maybe a bit early… but with a condensed schedule I think Elliot can get a decent amount of wins and I want to try getting more GP from goalies this year.

Round 15 – Ryan Graves – He may have lost his spot beside Makar… but Colorado is still going to be high-scoring and moving away from Makar will mean more hits and blocks opportunities. And being the RHRS… I figured there would ample name opportunities with a last name Graves. Looking after I had to decised between Dig Two Graves, Open Graves and Grave Encounters… Dig Two Graves won because of the Logo opportunity.

After 15 – 3Goalies, 6LW eligible, 4RWeligibe, 4C eligible, 2D - dual eligibility flexibility is going to be key with COVID.

Round 16 - Jordan Staal – FOW, Hits, Shots – nothing sexy.

Round 17 – Jack Campbell – The only teams with more back to back games then the Leafs are San Jose and Ottawa. I don’t want a SJ goalie and I already have Ottawa’s starter. So I went with a backup goalie from a top team that has lots of back to back games. Not chasing goalie starts all season… I am drafting them!

Round 18 – Andre Burakovsky – As mentioned earlier, COL is expected to score a lot… and I feel Burakovsky was hidden in he Yahoo Rankings… I loved this pick.

Round 19 – Tanner Pearson – I had Buchnevich and Lindblom queued and really wanted one of these late round gems.

Round 20 – Tyler Myers – nothing special here… probably could have found something better… was thinking about the high-scoring Canadian division. I always seem to have this guy in this league … like I named my team one year… the Curse of Myers… this guy is the curse… I will trade him for a bag of pucks.

Round 21 – Connor Murphy – Hits, Blocks and SOG… hopefully gets on the ice with Keith, Kane, Debrincat and Strome and gets me a bunch of cheesy secondary assists.

Round 22 – Brandon Saad – Dual eligibility and plays for Colorado.

Round 23 – Nikita Zaitsev – Hits and blocks is all I was looking for here.

Round 24 - Mikael Granlund - Nashville bounce-back (I also really wanted Johansen earlier in draft… but I decided to target goalies and never got him) Also signed a one-year prove it contract to stay in Nashville.

Round 25 - Drake Batherson – Over point per game in AHL, Ottawa is on the up-swing and in the high-scoring Canadian division.

Round 26 – Vitek Vanecek – Washington backup goalie… worth a chance… Ilya is young and the most games he has played in a year was 37. So opportunities. I did have Craig Anderson queued… but then wanted to double check who was Washington's backup and it sounds like Laviolette is leaning towards this guy.

Round 27 – Pelech – blocks and hits and hits and blocks….

    Recap:
    5 C eligible, 10LW eligible, 8RW eligible, 6D, 5G

Canadian Division players – 9 players VEG and COL and STL players - 6 players
