Default Hockey Books, what are you reading?

What are people reading these days? I know it's close to Christmas and there's always a slew of books coming out at this time so what is worth getting? I am looking at picking up Brian Burke's book but are there any other ones out there that are worth checking out.

    Yes, I've read The Game.

I think I've said this once or twice on here before but I enjoyed Sean Avery's book more than I thought I would.

99: Stories of the Game (Wayne + some author) is pretty good. I don't know if there's any *wow* stories... but anything out of Wayne's brain is worthwhile.

Five - A Salute to Nicklas Lidstrom is a solid "quick flip, photograph + stories book" to throw on a coffee table if you have hockey buddies over.
I own a copy, they mass produced them, so you can find them online here & there pretty cheap.
I'm not sure why - but Lidstrom was just this very interesting person to me, to watch him age, speak to the game, speak towards his family - integrating with Russians and Swedes on the Wings those great years.

A fun fictional story that mixes hockey in:
    Beartown by Fredrik Backman
I mean... if you like stories, had a daughter, like hockey, spent any time in shitty small-town hockey arenas and shitty small-towns... this book hits home.
I absolutely loved it. It's not like it's cutting edge Pulitzer fiction... it's just a really nice (fictional) read for a hockey person.
Most local libraries may have this one in stock.

And, as I age, I've become a fan of having a few kids books empowering girls.
It just feels a bit... right... I'm not sure why.
There's one I stumbled across at our local library a year ago with Hayley Wickenheiser.
I loved reading it to my youngest daughter (she was 5 at the time).
I almost wrote to the author & Hayley to send my appreciation at having a female-centric hockey book to read to my kid.
About a girl who is having a tough time with her hockey tryouts and selecting a jersey number.
(Sort of a great companion to the Disney Pixar movie "Inside Out")

Are you referring to the one titled Offside?

Also - if you have a subscription to theathletic (I cut mine), they have a list of books there that hockey people have been reading/read:

(I'm behind firewall now, but I read it last year)

Anything by Roy McGregor is worth reading.
His Screech Owls books were awesome when I was growing up.

Yes, and my son is just getting into the age for them. He found my old ones and wants to start reading! I am excited for the journey.

If you haven't read Bob Probert's book... then that is the top of my recommendation list.

The yearly Xmas books for my father in law are Duthie's and Burke's. I would probably rather read the latter.

Burke's is a definite must get for me. Looking forward to reading that one.

I'm intrigued on this one. I suspect it's inline with the current documentary on Bobby P? Want to experience both.

I also have Burke's book on my list. Although, I may entertain the idea of an Audio version as Burke narrates it which could add a cool dynamic.

I'm going back a little bit, but Clint Malarchuk's book is fantastic. I read it and then he came to town to do a talk and I got a 2nd copy autographed. if you haven't read that one then I'd definitely recommend.

I also have Patrick Roy's book and Boogard's book that I'm eagerly awaiting some down time to sink my teeth into.

I've never got into audiobooks for some reason, but maybe I should be. It would be cool to hear Burke read his own book.
