Not sure about sneaky really but a Trotz coached team usually does the goalies well. Also keep in mind Toews and Boychuk are gone...

Any Trotz tandem is a good tandem own.

If you want sneaky - Talbot/Stalock

Your tandem of Sorokin and Varlamov, I would predict ranks amongst the top 5 tandems in the league (hence not so sneaky!). See my top ten tandem rankings below (next 3 years). Tandem defined as neither goalie more than 60% of starts. I welcome feedack from all Dobber Forum readers regarding my rankings.

    1. Rask/Halak
    2. Lehner/Fleury
    3. Shesterkin/Georgiev
    4. Sorokin/Varlamov
    5. Grubauer/Francouz
    6. Korpisalo/Merzlikins
    7. Holtby/Demko
    8. Blackwood/Crawford
    9. Samsonov/Lundqvist
    10. Khudobin/Bishop

    Honorable mentions: Saro/Rinnes; Jones/Dubnyk; Kuemper/Raanta; Ullmark/Hutton; Mzarek/Reimer

Nothing sneaky here - it's well known the Islanders have two good goalies and a strong system.

This is the only one I would demote. I'm not sold that blue line is good enough to bail them out. bottom 5 the last two years defensively.
Kuemper/Raanta I'd slide into your top 10 instead.... or Saros/Rinne if you believe Nsh will bounce back.

digressing further I'd move Dallas up to 5/6

From a fantasy perspective, a team with a weak defense that gives up lots of shots on goal is good thing (as long as goalies get lots of saves). If Blackwood builds on his outstanding rookie campaign (20+ wins) and Crawford plays up to his historical standards, they should be able to offset suspect defense. Having said that, I agree moving Khudobin/Bishop ahead of Balckwood/Crawford makes sense.

For at least the first 1/3 (maybe more?) of the season it'll be Khudobin/Oettinger? Be interesting to see how that split goes...

to an extent I agree. It can definitely help you win that cat.
I think the big thing is the quality of those shots...
a lot of shots is not a good thing if your league includes GAA & SVPCT and the team is bottom five in high danger chances.

I think Lehner and Shesterkin get about or more than 60%, and definitely would if not for COVID. I also think Merzlikins/Korpi should be #1 or 2. Boston scares me a little with age/injury/D-depth. Blackwood/Crawford should drop a tad, but still on the list, and Kuemper/Raanta in top 5. But... goalies... voodoo...

That used to be a strategy I used in my long running league (in sig) - facing massive shot volume. Hasek was a beast. Worked with lesser goalies like Roy as well, but not as reliably.

To the OP, there is nothing remotely sneaky about the Isles tandem.

Fearless forecast: Cory Schneider plays more games for the Islanders this year than Ilya Sorokin.
