    Default Future defense

    Hey all,

For team in signature, looking ahead at defensemen keepers next year.

Current situation : Coming off a championship and hoping to repeat, my priority at the draft will be to sign some cheap contracts to complete my team this season as I have little cap space to work with. That being said I have a win every season mentality, but I am always looking a year further down the line at what my keepers could look like next season. Of course this is never set in stone as things change during a season, but I believe this helps keep me competitive every year.

I assume Hughes will get a substantial raise after this season, so with him and Theodore, pretty sure I'll have to drop/trade Carlson after this season or in season if I get a great offer.

That being said, would like to get some suggestions on some defensemen to target at some point in my draft that could help this season and continue to improve for the following season with a cheap or cheapish contract. Having a few years left on contract would be great.

Here are some potential players available :

    Chychrun
    McAvoy
    Grzelcyk
    Sergachev
    Ekholm
    Ty Smith
    Brannstrom
    Byram
    Merkley
    Broberg
    Seider

    OTHER?

I often look at cheapest possible contracts with 30+ pts potential but wondering if targeting bigger longer term contracts like Chychrun might be worth a shot!? Better off taking a risk new possibly shiny toy?

    Thanks!

Sergachev, he def gets 30 plus per year and he is not that expensive. Hedman inevitably gets injured and he rises to PP1 and pops off from time to time for ya.

I like Sergachev but at his salary I'd want a floor of 40 pts and hope for 45+. What are your thoughts on his floor and ceiling?

with Hedman, floor is 30 ceiling 45, if he supersedes Hedman, floor is 40 and the ceiling is 65.
