This is hilarious and amazing, which we need more of in 2020. Thank you!
In a recently completed draft in Fantrax keeper league, I ended up with some real beauties on my team with respect to number of letters in their surnames. I have listed a starting six consisting of 3 Forwards, 2 Dmen, and one goalie below from the players I drafted. The total number of letters is 64.
I challenge all readers to come up with any starting lineup of six (3F,2D,1G) that has more total letters in surnames (does not have to be your own leneup). Rules: cannot use any of the players listed below, hyphenated or dual surnames not permitted, player has to been a drafted prospect or a player currently in playing in NHL.
My all-alphabet lineup (honest this is real).
1. Marat Khustnidinov (12 letters) Forward Wild draft choice
2. Kasper Simontaival (11 letters) Forward Kings draft choice
3. Andrew Mangiapane (10 letters) Forward Flames player
4. Shakir Mukhamadullin (13 letters) Dman Devils draft choice
5. Miro Heiskanen (9 letters) Dman Stars player
6. Artur Akhtyamov (9 letters) Goalie Leafs draft choice
Number to beat is 64. Good luck.
This is hilarious and amazing, which we need more of in 2020. Thank you!

Gilles Senn 4
you beat me as I was posting nice
I misunderstood the point of it haha.
My lineup was counting how many different letters total between the first and last names. So the math adds up!
Calling it an alphabet lineup indicates that it has something to do with letters. Your version is just the longest last names :P
Using names I had initially taken, it seems the highest I can get is now 68:
Jonathan Marchessault - 12
Jesperi Kotkaniemi - 11
Jakob Silfverberg - 11
Shayne Gostisbehere - 12
Kevin Shattenkirk - 11
Andrei Vasilevskiy - 11

The 71 letters is a pretty impressive total. If these guys have all be drafted into the NHL (one of the rules of the contest), and if they represent a full starting line (i.e. 3F,2D,1G), another rule of the contest, this will be hard to beat. I will verify compliance and get back to you.
