First nationally recognized band I saw: NRBQ

First nationally recognized band I paid to see: either The Hooters or Cinderella, but they weren't big acts nationally, just big in the Philly area.

My grand-dad, whom I'm named after, died when I was really young, and I have very few memories of him. Well you sure do like Johnny Cash now
Now that they've put him in the ground
You hang his poster on your ceiling

    Where were you in 1989?
When it looked like Johnny was on the decline
    His career was fading
    And his shows weren't selling
You were listening to heavy metal
Well you sure do like Johnny Cash now

Too bad you hardly played him when he was alive

Sum 41 would have been entertaining but to be honest, I have never enjoyed the Tea Party. To me they were always just a Doors wanna-be band.

I always heard that comparison but they were longs before my time so all I know is that the singers looked alike.

Red Hot Chili Peppers were the first big paid concert I went to. They were terrible. Opening band got booed off stage, RHCP were on stage for 40minutes, no encore, Paid I think $99 for nosebleeds at the ACC. I went to "Sound of Music" festival which is a free music festival in the summer in Burlington plenty of times. Then went to Molson Amp a bunch for like $20 concerts which I had 0 care of who it was, just was something to do (I think the first one I saw was AKON, illScarlett, K-os) but I don't consider that my real concert virginity.

I've hated RHCP ever since that concert and they were my fave band at that point. It was my bday then too, I was so mad. Still am

doesn't help he's referred to himself as Jim Morrison in the past either

It also didn't help that I wasn't a big Doors fan to start with.

Motley Crue, Shout At The Devil tour, Accept opened. CNE Colosseum, Toronto, 1984. General admission show. Great concert, had a big impact on me. I loved going to concerts after that.

    Welcome to the forums.

Would have loved to see the Crue. I had a chance a few years back when I was in Philly and they were playing in NJ. A few of my shipmates went and saw them but I couldnt get there that night.

    Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, I saw The Tea Party back in the mid 90's, they headlined Edgefest one year at Molson Park, Barrie Ontario. They were pretty good, but the lead singer definitely was channeling Jim Morrison, probably a little too much.

Saw Metallica open for Aerosmith in 89. Also saw them in 96 when they headlined Lollapalooza (loudest concert I've been to, and it was outdoors)
