Bean vs Dorofeyev Afanasyev

can you please let me know about these players? i drafted doroeyev and afansyev last season with high hopes but wondering if i am overvaluing them.

i am trying to work out a trade where i would move the two and get Bean. I do wonder if it is too much giving those two but there is more to the deal.

Pavelski, Atkinson, Dorofeyev Afanaseyev and 2021 2nd
For
Namestnikov and Bean

it is a salary cap league 24 teams, 23 main roster, 25 prospects.

some context: not team in sig but winning team and my cap situation is a mess. i am up against it with PLD and hoffman still to sign with me still needing to bring up B.Tkachuk and Pettersson from the minors. i do believe this is an overpayment but will help me free up space as well we have a free summer buyout that i wont have to use on pavelski and might be able to trade to another team for an asset.

the other item is my prospect pool is on the weak side with tippet, Zadina, zegras, lavoie, Afanasyev, Dorofeyev, harkins and Perreault leading the way as the main names.

I like Jake Bean but that seems expensive considering he hasn't proven anything himself. Both Afanaseyev and Dorofeyev are a couple years out but still decent prospects. I own them in a few leagues myself and as long as you're patient, you should get rewarded eventually. It's the rest of the offer I dont get. Pavelski, Atkinson and the 2nd going out and Namestnikov coming back in? Just seems like a massive overpayment even in a cap league.

agree but this is a bottom team and anyone with the room to take them on is just doing it to help us top teams clear roster/cap space. so they almost have no value. so weird considering they do and on a winning team can be the difference in your depth. so basically i am paying the two prospects and the pick (which will be a late pick) for him to take those guys off my hands and instead of me basically dropping them for free atleast getting namestnikov who will add hits a stat i need and bean coming back.

no thats the problem. i told him no its too much but now i am going back over and over in my head as i usually always trade for the now and win. worry about prospects later

I just dont think Bean is worth that much and I'd be looking for other ways to clear cap.

So you are in cap hell, you won last season and are competing for the victory next season, and you have the opportunity to alleviate your cap problems without having to trade your best prospects (Zegras, Tippett, Zadina)? I can see why you are considering this. If the opportunities to move out cap are few and far between this seems like a decent option.

I dunno, I think I’d rather just drop Pavelski outright. I understand cap / dynasty leagues and the pressure to get something back for assets. I have watched many managers trade away pieces along with cap to move out from under the salary. Sometimes the correct play was instead to just walk away from a player. Without understanding all the nuisances of your league, this looks like one of those situations. That is, unless you really believe in Jake Bean and you have to move out more salary than just Pavelski.
