It's early, but he seems to be on track to be in the upper echelon of elite prospects. I remember hearing of Lafreniere when he was 15 and having him described as being elite, and 3 years or so later he's the 1.1 pick. Wright seems to be along that same track or in the neighborhood. Still, there's a lot of time between now and Wright's draft day.

I've never seen him play but everything I've read about him leads me to believe he's legit. Not sure anyone is going to say he isn't at this early stage of his playing career.

I think Tavares with a lot better skating is a good comparison.
JT was a horrid skater at that age whereas Wright is well above average.
I would not expect him to become 'the next McDavid'

He's probably not McDavid/Crosby but from what I gather he's in that next tier with some room for growth. I see him as a sure thing stud prospect, #1 OA straight into the NHL like Tavares, Stamkos, Matthews and the like.

I would say that yes, unequivocally, Wright is "legit". McDavid level? Pretty lofty standards for anyone. But a guy who could be top 10 in the league during his prime? I think he's got the potential package for that.

Obviously we'll all watch development paths for the big 3 (Wright, Lambert, Savoie) and others, but watching him in the O last year was pretty eye-opening considering his age.

I know personally, I'm looking to acquire as many 2022 1st rounders as possible in my leagues.

I concur...definitely a player to target if you can get him. He will pay immediate dividends in the NHL, unless a player like Hughes, Hischier, Kakko, etc. who need a bit more time to be productive in the NHL.

I'd be shocked if any of us can say we've "actually" seen him play against enough competition to grade him ourselves.
All (any of us) we can do is to pass along what we've all read.
Which is... yes, he seems to be legit.

From my reading, there are THREE kids in the 2022 draft that are going to be super dynamos.
This includes Wright, Lambert, and Savoie. From what I read... people mix them in, quality-wise/upside, with Lafreniere... and possibly Raty (2021).
But the key point is that the 2021-22 season is a good to suck in fantasy hockey... but there's a better chance to land a stud prospect.
Wright being an "exceptional" case for his OHL draft, keeps are eyes glued to him.

From what I'm reading, the 2021 draft is thin for high-end talent, beyond Raty.

I've read there's lots of talent but most of the higher end is defenseman. Not really conducive to fantasy circles.

FWIW, the shine is wearing off Raty. The consensus is that he's no longer a top 10 selection, let alone the favorite for first overall as he once was.

Owen Power, Kent Johnson, and many others are ranked higher than Raty at this point.

so sad Power won't be released by his college for the WJC camp.

i blame Hockey Canada for this...they are so firm that he needed to be there by 17th of Nov. If they allowed him to join on 10th of Dec he would have been there. they so strict with this stuff.
