I read he was asked to take less on this deal to help keep the team cap compliant and he agreed.

Maybe that was it. There's something that's popped up today that was he either accepted a lower deal so no one would be traded off the team, or he wanted a lower deal so no one would be moved from the team.

Bargaining power for what next summer? He signed a 2 year deal. I guess it helps him Build bargaining power. I suspect he will need to be protected from expansion? Not sure of those rules.

I think everybody pretty much agrees that he's a better player than his aav would suggest.
Unfortunately for him, this salary was predictable & justifiable based on his small number of GP.
Great kid though.
