I know, he's not a player retiring, but still a legendary announcer. He's one of the "old school" hockey announcers to me who actually calls a solid play-by-play. I'll miss his voice.

Happy trails and retirement to the legendary Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick.

Congratulations on a magnificent broadcasting career and many thanks for your dedication to the game.

Damn. Legendary broadcaster and a voice I'll associate with a lots of Wings games as well as a lot of the newer NHL games.

    Good timing.
Loved his voice... but the hints of losing his sharpness was very obvious during his play-by-play calls this playoffs.
Voices of the game are almost as important as the players - he will be missed.

I’ve been a fan of Doc for a while but being from Canada we didn’t get him very often, until the later part of his career. This reminds me a lot of the Bob Cole retirement although not exactly the same sequence of events. Another legend of the broadcasting corps gone but as mentioned the sharpness was starting to slip and the rambling was noticeable.

So is Kenny Albert next up? I feel like he still does football quite a bit so that might be an issue. Although in a normal season, the weekend NBC games only start to pickup after January don't they?

Legendary voice and style. All the major Hawk moments during their run were called by Doc. He was recently interviewed by a local station and he is a just a jewel of a person.
He's been a mainstay on my television for years during the spring. I'll miss him.

    Please take Olczyk with you.
