Placed 1st in Regular season last year ..... Now what?

Hey Everyone

Finished 1st in standings last year with lots of help from everyone here!

Made trades at deadline trying to build strong for playoff matchup .... but that went downhill into a total points only free for all.

Mainly Need help on who to keep .... 6 keepers only , or should I move someone out??

keep ageing players ... Ovi ?
Will Burns bounce back or go younger for DeAngelo ?
keep Rask or go for new blood if available in Rnd 2 ?
Will Wheeler rebound with Laine ?


Update : Also have a trade offers to me today
O’Reilly and a 7th , for my 3rd ?


lots of question marks for a shortened off season , but I need to make a plan to move forward , picks or which players to keep.

as always appreciate the great feedback , and how to improve on or repeat a great season last year!!

I'd be happy going into next season with what you have bolded right now.

I might try to move Rask along with someone like Burns, DeAngelo or Kuznetzov for an upgrade given that it sounds like Rask is done after this season, but he'll still be good for this upcoming season. As for DeAngelo vs Burns, its close but I think you'll have an easier time redrafting Burns than DeAngelo.

So, I can tell you’re not from Pittsburgh, but by your screen name, it could be Philly, Washington, CBJ, Rangers... Philadelphia actually has NO cheer that goes, “Let’s Go Flyers!” - they just resort to “______SUCKS!!” (Pretty sure they use it for Ovi also...). CBJ at least cheers “CBJ!” sometimes, so that’s out. I went to MSG, but the place turned into a mausoleum once the Rangers were down by 2.

No, I’m going to stick with Philly. And the thing is, Sid plays harder when he hears that chant.

The reason you won is that you had the best players, not the shiniest and youngest ones.

Keep: Ovechkin, Marchand, Panarin, Wheeler, Burns, Rask* (if he does indeed return next year).

Do you have a fear about Wheeler ?

With Fiala , I drafted him 2 years ago and he burned me with a sophomore slump , then picked him up on waivers this year and he finished incredibly strong .

I think he might put up 75 - 80 points this year ( if normal season)
Just not sure about his consistency??

Anyone have any opinions on O’Reilly offer being an upgrade or workable scenario with my keepers?

I think Wheeler has at least another really good season in him now that he won't (or shouldn't - barring an injury somewhere) have to play #2C like he did for a lot of last season. That really threw him off and it took a while to get going but once he was rolling and back playing wing he was looking like the 90pt guy again towards the end. He's getting older now though and age will catch up to him sooner rather than later so I won't call him PPG+ anymore but I can see 70-75 for at least one more season.

Fiala might very well do the same but he's not proven to be consistent (yet) like Wheeler has been, and let's also not forget the Wild lost their two best centers so who is he going to be playing with? Kaprizov maybe on the other wing but will he adjust to the NHL right away or will he struggle to adjust like Gusev? I'm high on Fiala for the long term like most here but I also need to see it first before I'd keep him over Wheeler personally.

You have a very competitive team, so I would bring mostly back your core. I agree to move on from Rask, as he's you highest risk keeper, and possibly keep no goalies, and keep Fiala or Burns instead. You probably should try nd consolidate into better keepers, as you have some bubble guys who merit keeping.

I would not make a move for O'Reilly, as he does the opposite of what you need, giving up a pick for a player, and I'm also convinced he's not an upgrade.

I will confirm that "Let's Go Flyers" does exist, and that while Crosby doesn't suck, he is a whiny douche often.

I have had the thought to move Rask , and keep Burns as I did trade for burns at the deadline and think he may bounce back next season.

By consolidating, what would be the outlook or moves to make to do this ?
And if I moved Rask , do you think Rask and Kuznetzov should equal a 1st rnd pick ( as I am short one this year )

..... and just to clear it up , Bruins Fan all the way ... lives in Calgary , not a fan of Flames , but grew up in Wpg , and yes Crosby does just like to whine. .... Just a name for fun ��( no harm meant )
