Not really a surprise....I'm more surprised the coach wasn't fired though.

He was clocked doing 35mph (5kmh) over the speed limit at one point.

Pretty risky situation with acquiring Lindsay with Bell out there.

I agree. I am surprised Gase has lasted this long. I have no idea why they are keeping him on.

As far as Bell goes, hes had an interesting career. Twice the franchise tag in Pittsburgh until he held out for a year, costing himself roughly $14.5M for that year. Then he signs a big fat contract with NYJ, $27M guaranteed and now he's back looking for work again. Crazy. He had the world by the bag in Pittsburgh but greed got the better of him.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting
    Goalie points W=2pt L=-1pt SHO=2pt

Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Mercer, JRobertson, RThomas, Kucherov, Nugent-Hopkins, Tuch, KConnor, Necas, Point, Konecny, SJarvis, Cozenz, Morrissey, Bouchard, Josi, Novak, Tolvanen, Peterka, Brink

    G- Vasilevskiy, Sorokin, Oettinger

If the goal of your career is to set yourself up for life (which it should be), Bell did just fine. Reasonable people can disagree with whether holding out on the franchise tag was the correct move, but choosing money over some faux "legacy" was absolutely the right call.

Considering how the Pittsburgh offense (and specifically offensive line) has downgraded since he left, it's really tough to project if Bell's career numbers would have been much different anyways. Conner is a much different style runner.

    Two words - Trevor Lawrence.

    The benefits of keeping Gase:

    1) they keep losing games and improve their chances at #1 overall pick.
    2) they don't have to pay another coach
    3) an interim/new coach will want to win games to show their worth and could cost them the #1 overall pick.

As a side, I doubt Bell rushes like crazy on a new team. However, he'll be great in the game. Gase went out of his way to not involve Bell in the passing game.

He still would have got paid! As we saw with Dak this weekend, anything can happen and sometimes taking the guarantees and term are worth more than most expect, especially in the NFL for a RB.

Because it's Gase...He'll use Gore in the passing game, and shift Darnold into the lead back roll.

Would he have? Since he didn't sign the contract, we will never know the extent of the guarantees Pittsburgh was offering in their contract outside of the franchise tag. He could have played 1 year on the franchise tag, had a Dak-style injury, and had that be his last year.

What we do know is he guaranteed himself $28M instead of $14.5M. He did exactly what you're advocating, took the guarantees and term, no?

Gore for sure. Why see what you have in the rookie when you can start the player you know is washed? Gase logic

At the time of it all... the only guarantee was 14.5.

What if he sat out that season and instead of being with the Steelers playing football on a Sunday afternoon, he was out for a Sunday afternoon cruise and got in a car accident and ended up paralyzed? I think that ultimately would have been a worse case scenario than playing on the franchise tag.
