    Default 1st PP in Calgary?

With Gustaffson gone, the 1st PP likely goes entirely to Gio.
Are they now planning to groom Valimaki to take over by the end of this season?
Do they give him that opportunity?

I'd think Hanafin has the inside track for more PP time.

Hanifin is honestly an offensive disaster.

Andersson and Valimaki are the long term answers on the Flames PP.

I'll say that its Giordano until either Andersson or Valimaki show themselves able to do it.

It means Hanifin is an excellent 2nd pairing defenseman who has limited offensive ability. He is more suitable to the 2nd PP unit and can be counted on for more or less 30 points per year.

Not really what I'm getting from "offensive disaster". Does it mean he can't shoot or pass or makes terrible decisions with the puck? His possession metrics are ok - not great but not bad. I wouldn't think someone who is a "disaster" would be able to put up any points at all or belong on even the 2nd PP unit. So no, it doesn't mean that. I would be curious to hear what he means - thus my question.

It means that his offensive instincts often produce disastrous results. His decision making is below average at best. I do not believe he belongs on a PP2 and while he can do it, that doesn't mean he is good at it. He was 2nd on the team in PPTOI in 2018-19 but he had the worst GF/60 of the four D that got regular minutes, and Andersson was a rookie and Brodie is also bad at it. He was third in PPTOI (fourth after the Gustafsson acquisition) and again produced the fourth worst results. I don't think you would see a noticeable dropoff in PP efficiency between Hanifin and say Hamonic or Tanev. And I don't think a player averaging 0.35 p/G over ~400 games has much room to grow offensively or is someone who has shown themselves to be an offensive threat.

So he was 4th on the team in PPTOI and 4th in PP points? That's so odd. I guess you've seen him play quite a bit to have analyzed his decision making. Were his instincts and decision making so deficient I'd expect much worse possession numbers - but like I said they are decent. Whatever. You're the authority.

4th in PP efficiency, not points. Process > Results.

IE, of all of the PP combinations Calgary may have used over the last 2 years, the combinations involving Hanifin consistently performed worse than any other combination used.

A logical conclusion to that data is that Hanifin is capable but not proficient on the PP, but each individual can discern the results as they please.

You can personally build your fantasy team however you like, but counting on Hanifin to take over any meaningful PP time and valuing him as such would likely benefit your leaguemates most.
