    Default Trade down?

    Hi everyone,

I've got the 1st and 3rd overall in the upcoming draft. I'm taking Lafreniere but received an offer for the 3rd overall pick:
My Tarasenko plus 3rd overall for
His DeAngelo, Evander Kane, and the 11th overall

It's a 12 team multi-cat no salary cap league (League 2 in my signature). Points, +/-, PIM, shots, blocks, hits, etc. I'm in a rebuild and he won it two years ago and is still competing.

I see Kane and Tank being relatively equal, so I think it's DeAngelo for the trade in picks. I was going to take Stutzle with 3rd overall.

The draft is in December so I have time. I've let it known that my 3rd overall is in play and might get other offers from other GMs. I'm really after young stud D but ones who are already in the league as Dmen take longer to develop (Hughes and Makar notwithstanding).
He's selling high on DeAngelo as I don't see Fox going anywhere and DeAngelo has had one great season but that's it.
Also, the other GM a good trader and usually comes out ahead in what I've seen in this league, so I'm wary

Is this deal enough? I think the value is there but was thinking of turning it down as Stutzle looks really good. If I could grab Askarov at 11 that might make up for it though. What do you think?

Given that you're in a rebuild, I'd sooner stick with Stutzle unless a better offer comes along. Also in a rebuild year, you can afford to be patient with Tank and wait for him to get healthy.

The value's not close to something I would do. Keep 3rd overall if that's the best offer you are getting.

I'm saying no to that, but offer your third out and see who bites, people go stupid for picks sometimes.

I agree. Try the third. I think you'd have a better trade with it.

I wouldn't take that. Rebuilds should be about snagging the highest talent, so if you can walk out with Laf and Stutzle, you're doing great.

I'd still dangle the 3rd but you never know what someone will offer, but I wouldn't drop to 11th myself.

DeAngelo plus the 11th isn't crazy, since you are seriously decreasing injury risk going from Tarasenko to Kane.

However, with a december draft, I think you'll get a better offer, and I'd really want to drop to no lower than 8th or 9th.

Just adding more confidence that you made the right decision in declining.

Yup, also jumping on the bandwagon of turning down the deal. There's no point in getting a 29-year-old Kane if you are rebuilding. Tank is actually a year younger than Kane, who isn't exactly the poster boy for health either. Kane is getting to that age where power forwards start to decline rapidly.

You're better off keeping the third overall. I wouldn't sell it to get a young D. With luck, you'll be able to get Drysdale or Sanderson 11th overall if you're set on having a great d. Or draft another offensive player, and see what you can get for just Tarasenko.
