I'd do the deal. TT is still young and will produce at 70+ points (IMO) for a number of years still. Don't get hung up on hoping your prospects turn out. Trade for producing youth otherwise your rebuild will be indefinite. Like the others said, you're trading quantity for quality, which is what you want to do.

Thanks to everyone for their replies on this, I appreciate all your inputs and perspectives. I can sometimes become a little obsessed with prospects and potential, and lose sight of actually winning. Gotta pull out this rebuild eventually. I've hit him back with 21st OA, Brown and Ingram/Gillies. See where that lands—if I have to add Urho or something we'll make it work.

Your window shouldn't be 6 years so you should do well on this. And even if you do rebuild forever, TT should net you pieces more useful than what you gave up to acquire him.

That's a steep price to pay for an above average player. And given the state of your current team, I'm not sure it makes sense at all. If you're willing to move those kinds of assets, I'd be more inclined to shop them around the league and see if you can get a better return elsewhere.

im personally not against acquiring good young players in your rebuild even if they are older than your core will be when you compete. However it depends on the price...what does top forward mean in here? 1st and who? like Ehlers type + 2 prospects or forward prospect like Top seven from this years draft or zegras turcotte types plus 2 prospects? if that's a case you run away quick....but if its 1st logan brown + any 2 guys from that list im doing this trade quickly.

I think that’s a great trade.

Personally I don’t care where you are In a rebuild if you can get a player for that price you do it. Especially in the off season

Easily a player you can trade again to a contender at deadline for more than that

In my league, I view things a bit different than most of the traders. They get locked into player names and their teams situations. I definitely don’t. It’s all fluid. Just cause you’re rebuilding doesn’t mean you have to just sell for the future. You have to buy, but buy the right pieces. That’s one for sure . Just cause you’re “rebuilding” doesn’t mean you don’t take a guy in his prime like at that price.

He either produces for you or you trade him for something better that helps your cause.

That’s great asset management. Great trade.
