Dropped players in this league are basically waiver wire guys. And in a 20 team, 40 players per team, they are basically useless. Like the drop would be a Khaira type player. So the drop wouldn’t make a whole lot of difference. So this is basically a 2:1 situation where the the player drop would have no bearing.

If the other GM is a Leafs fan an offer of Matthews + Marner for McDavid might make them think. Maybe.

If I was the McDavid owner and you offered me Pettersson, Barzal, Mantha and Boeser I would have to consider that offer. Anything less than an huge overpay and I am not considering trading McDavid.

If you could get away with them accepting Barkov, Laine, Gaudreau for McDavid you would be doing very well.

Matthews + Marner for just McDavid seems like a gigantic overpay in a league this size. I could see that in a 10 or 12 team league. This is probably why I don’t own McDavid in this league haha.

Ya, it is. Don't do that. Especially in such a deep league.

I do think it will take more than Barkov/Gaudreau though.

Best thing to do is ask and hope he's worried about his aging team as you've indicated and that he'd be interested in a bunch of high upside young prospects you could include with a current stud of say Barkov and/or Gaudreau to try and entice him further. Of course you would have to have a lot of high upside young prospects.

I'm betting he will probably want something like the above, which just isn't worth it.

You did well to build a team with that roster in a 20 team league.
If you want McDavid it will start with Matthews / Pasta engaged in trade offers of some variation and nothing less.

Matthews has a career high of 80 points. McDavid career high is 116 points. They are different tiered players.

I’m not stumping for you to make a McDavid trade. More to illustrate what it would take for the McDavid owner to agree to trade him. As others have said it would take (likely) two of Pettersson, Matthews, Patrnak, Marner. I think you would also have to toss in a Mantha/Boeser level kicker.

** We haven’t seen your D, goalies, or farm team so the ideas being tossed around are based on the info that we have.

In a 16 teams league, I traded McDavid few weeks ago for Aho/Svech/DeAngelo/2nd in 2020/1st in2023. I also throw in Morrissey. I think I did well, but you never know...

I basically just use Dmen for the banger categories. I have guys like Carlo, Lindell, Pesce, Zadorov, Larsson. My strategy in this league is load up on Forwards and have the Dmen help in the peripheral categories. In net, I have Mrazek/Reimer and Bob/Dreidger. I like having tandems in this league. Goalie cats are W, SA, SVS, GA, GAA, SV %. Not really any farm system for me here. Any prospects I have had, I have used to build that Forward core.
