Default [RUMOR] Krug's Rights to Detroit

I read a rumor that Krug's rights will be traded to Detroit. Krug and his wife are from Michigan and Krug played for Blashill in College, so it makes sense to me.

Detroit also has the money and the space on their roster for a player like Krug.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Krug has been an elite point-producing dmen for years, but leaving a team with Marchand and Pastrnak and an extremely effective power play to a team that struggles to score, I suspect Krug easily loses 10-15 pts. Agree or disagree?

I also think this move significantly hurts Hronek.

Both Hronek and Seider shoot right, Krug shoots left. It's not completely out of the question that he helps them more-so than hurts them. He also brings a lot of experience to the team which can rub off on the young up and comers. Seider is probably a bigger threat to Hronek than Krug but who knows at this time.

Possibly...I was mostly thinking that Hronek's PP time will be taken by Krug, regardless of left/right-handedness. Most teams only have one dman on the PP.

Ya, I can see that happening as well. To be fair, it's not like Hronek was a stud point producer at this stage of his career and it's getting yanked from him. He's still growing as it is. I dont think this stunts his growth that much but a lot would depend on the term they give Krug (assuming they sign him). He is 29 and if Stevie Y is smart, he signs him to nothing more than 4 years. That allows both Seider and Hronek to develop and grow at the same time.

if he signs in Detroit that will clearly tell you he just cares about making pay check and not about wining...that will really suck for him last week of next regular season....or last 3 months lol

Well, as Seadawg mentioned in his OP, there is a little more to it than that but ya, I am sure the money is important too.

Krug and his wife are from Michigan and Krug played for Blashill in College, so it makes sense to me.
Keep in mind, if he chooses to sign here, he is also removing his ability to really see what the market is for his services. He might get a better offer on the open market compared to what Detroit is willing to pay. Either way, this is his big payday.

that's a little unfair. I mean, it is true that Detroit isn't a powerhouse, but if he signs there, it is about more than just money. As I mentioned, he and his wife have family in Michigan. If I can make good money, and be close to his family, why not? Also, Yzerman has a proven track record, so even if Detroit isn't a contending team right now, perhaps they will be in a few years. I personally never thought that Dallas was going to be a Stanley Cup contender this year, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Detroit can turn things around with Yzerman and Blashill at the helm.

i can understand the family angle a bit but majority of these guys deal with being away for their carriers so i dont buy to much into that...

as for wining and Yzerman's track record, yeah he does have one....but that is at least 3-4 years away..probably more for them to compete. And so much can happen...

He is allowed to do what he wants and he earned every penny someone is willing to pay, but it is 95% money move if he goes there imo.

It took Yzerman 5 years to get Tampa to the cup final. Krug is 29. Seems perfectly reasonable that there is a future for this Wings team. They really do have a great foundation and some outstanding young players. Yzerman is a dynamic leader - no question he attracts players to his organization. It would make perfect sense to me for Krug to want to go there. So many things working in Detroit’s favor.

Michigan hockey people (kind of like Minnesota(/(WI): Suter/Parise) are very proud to be Michigan hockey people.
For me, Detroit has always been #1 potential landing spot for Krug.
I think that was is better odds (50%+) that he signs there.
And yes... the wife IS a big factor.

    I see a big 7yr x $7.14m = $50m contract.

He's pretty much not a Bruin already, and he knew it before the playoffs even finished for him. As Bruin management, why would you not try and trade his rights? It should be big this yr without an "1 week collusion" allowed period.
