Default Eat Your Brock-Olli- Help Me Keep Nelson Brock!

So I posted in another thread about moving Hronek for Evander Kane to help nail down my peripherals and a common theme was- "if youre trying to add peripherals why in the wirld would you cut Brock Nelson for free??"

Short answer? I dont know- lol!

Hes a cap casualty right now until I can make room for him I guess. Ive had to do a lot of work just getting into a reasonable facsimile of decent shape cap-wise. Ive got no help on the farm as in guys who can step in now outside of Kaprizov and Ive got him plabnted firmly in my active lineup. I put my guesses at the new hits for RFAs in brackets and then put the new hypothetical sum in brackets beside the total without RFAS at the bottom. Incidentally my guess was almost always 3.5 - lol! And by almost always- I mean always always.

    Auston Matthews Tor $11,634,000
    Ilya Mikheyev Tor RFA (3.5)
    Jonathan Huberdeau Fla $5,900,000
    Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Edm $6,000,000
    Kirill Kaprizov Min $1,387,500
    Tanner Pearson Van $3,750,000
    Mathew Barzal NYI RFA (8.5)
    Brock Nelson NYI $6,000,000
    Andre Burakovsk Col RFA (3.5
    Jakub Vrana Wsh $3,350,000
    Chris Kreider NYR $6,500,000
    William Nylander Tor $6,962,366
    Zach Werenski Clb $5,000,000
    Dougie Hamilton Car $5,750,000
    Radko Gudas Wsh UFA (3.5)
    Dennis Gilbert Chi $925,000
    Mattias Ekholm Nsh $3,750,000
    Mikko Lehtonen Tor $925,000
    David Rittich Cgy $2,750,000
    Semyon Varlamov NYI $5,000,000

    Carter Hutton Buf $2,750,000
    Linus Ullmark Buf RFA (3.5)
    Filip Hronek Det $913,333
    Jacob Trouba NYR $8,000,000
    Jake Virtanen Van RFA (3.5)

Total 87.5 million plus a hypothetical 26 million for a total of 113.5 Our total cap is 93.5ish. Making me 20 millionish over. Im guessing I "over shot" on some of these so lets say Im closer to 15 million over.

I just flipped Ghost for Trouba which is the biggest reason why Im SO over. Troua incidentally becomes an easy(ish) drop if I absolutely have to- which kind of sucks now that I type it out loud as hes a multi cat munster. Or can maybe trade him for an ELC somewhere- although they are like gold in this league :P In any case thats painful because I need peripherals and hes a beast but it leaves me at just about 7 million over which unfortunately is Brockys number . That being said I dont believe IR counts against your hit so maybe I can juggle that 6 million on IR if a player or two starts the bubble season injured? Is Nelson a better peripheral/scoring own than Troobs???

Trouba is trapped in a defense-first situation and Nelson is a late-blooming big player who I think will match what he just did or exceed it. I would drop Trouba to keep Nelson.
With Fox and DeAngelo gone, Trouba is a 55-point defenseman. But until then, he's a 35-point defenseman.

I would also look at dropping Kreider before Nelson.

    1. I'd be shocked if Gudas gets 3.5M in this environment.
    2. I'd be surprised if Ullmark gets 3.5M in this environment, and one of Hutton or Ullmark may not be on Buffalo once the music stops.

If Trouba is a depth D for you, then he needs to go.

Break your cap down by position, and see what you can do where. Nelson should have some trade value, just dropping him makes no sense.

Keep Nelson. He’s better value than Krieder. Hutton, Ullmark - one these should go once the G picture in Buffalo crystallizes. Trouba is expensive but good in periphs. Probably should have kept Gotisbehere. Better value. Virtanen can go. So can Gudas. Unless either signs a super low contract.

Might be able to get Weegs and Serron Noel for him.

Also pitched him to a team with a bit of room for Gustaafson- guessing that works?
